Seoul & Busan Sunday: Race-By-Race Preview (November 19)

A couple of big Juvenile races highlight the Sunday programs at both Seoul and Busan. Six unbeaten ones headline the Nonghyup Chairman’s Trophy at Seoul while at Busan, Bart Rice, Peter Wolsley and Thomas Gillespie all saddle fancied ones in the Gyeongnam DoMin Ilbo. Seoul has 11 Sunday races from 10:45 to 18:00 while Busan has 6 from 12:40 to 17:05.

Only Seoul is available on overseas simulcast so previews on Seoul races are below. For Busan selections, scroll to the bottom:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(8) AMAZING PEACE beat (9) BROWN BOMBER when the pair ran 3rd and 4th in a similar race over the same distance on October 21st. There was only a nose between them, however, and both look firmly in the frame here. Neither have been the fastest of starters so far and nor has the other main fancy, Midshipman gelding (6) HESEDEU, second when favourite last start, but they will all be looking to get away quickly here and whichever one manages it best, may well win. The others all need to find improvement with (4) SKY DOLPUNG and (10) CREMOA POWER perhaps most likely while (3) POWER KOREA has demonstrated already that he can start well and could be an interesting outsider.

Selections (8) Amazing Peace (9) Brown Bomber (6) Hesedeu (3) Power Korea

Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Juveniles only here and it sees seven fillies up against two colts. (5) MYEONGPUM BOBAE was an encouraging 2nd on debut on October 14th, running on nicely in a quick contest and could well make the breakthrough here. She’ll be on pace early alongside the other two top picks, (7) GEUMA THUNDER and (3) HANSEN GLORY. The pair finished 3rd and 4th when they raced each other in a different race the same day, beaten only by a couple of useful looking types. (1) PRIMO also debuted well a week later, briefly leading close to home before having to settle for 2nd. There are three debut-makers and among them, (8) LAST CONCERT looked the most capable in trials.

Selections (5) Myeongpum Bobae (7) Geuma Thunder (3) Hansen Glory (1) Primo
Next Best 8, 4
Fast Start 1, 3, 5, 7

Race 3: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

More juveniles here and a slightly weaker looking contest with a slightly stronger favourite. (3) GEOSEN MAPUNG was 3rd on debut on October 22nd, having been prominent throughout and a similar performance today should see her home on top. (1) IRYEO HAYEO and (5) SEUNGRI PLUS also showed some promise on their respective debuts and can be considered as did, to a lesser extent, (2) DUSON WANGJA. However, the main danger may come from one of the four first-time starters. That’s (8) LET’S YEONGCHEON who trialled up nicely for an in-form stable and has the champion jockey on board.

Selections (3) Geosen Mapung (8) Let’s Yeongcheon (5) Seungri Plus (2) Duson Wangja
Next Best 1, 6

Race 4: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Fillies (and two mares) only here and a tricky puzzle it is too with roughly half the field looking to have claims. We’re going to go with the two who come in having won their latest starts, beginning with (2) CHEONGUN ILHO. She’s up in class after a comfortable maiden victory last time over this distance five weeks ago. That win had been coming and she should cope with the step up in competition. The other is (4) BAEKSAN YEOWANG. She was also winning for the first time but in her case, it was at this class and with another of today’s contenders, (3) PYEWOL SUHWA back in 3rd. Baeksan Yeowang (more…)

Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (November 18)

We’re expecting sub-zero temperatures across the peninsula on Saturday but racing goes on! There are 12 races at Seoul from 10:45 to 18:00. Here are the previews:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

He didn’t do much in his first couple of outings but (2) CAPTAIN POWER has come on nicely in two since, landing back to back 3rd place finishes, first at this distance and then at 1300M and he looks ready to get his first win today. (10) BIG AURORA was a much improved 2nd a month ago and looks to be a danger while (5) DUSON EYE’s latest two also give cause for optimism. (3) HWANGGEUM JUMEONI did nothing on debut but Kim Yong Geun staying on will lend him some supporters. (7) STORMY PASSION is the most experienced in the race – not necessarily a good thing at class 6 – and should be beating plenty.

Selections (2) Captain Power (10) Big Aurora (5) Duson Eye (7) Stormy Passion
Next Best 3, 9
Fast Start 1, 2, 5, 11

Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

(1) ROYAL BOKSUNI and (7) KYU JEU ran 2nd and 3rd behind a very good winner at this distance on October 22nd. Three of the others who go here were well back behind them that day and while both are favoured here in this all-filly contest, it is Royal Boksuni who will be strong favourite to get her maiden win. Along with Kyu Jeu, (10) BAEKDU MIR looks most likely to challenge the favourite following a solid 2nd place last time out. (4) MINDEULRE CHUKJE and (5) DONGSEO GADEUK others in the placing hunt.

Selections (1) Royal Boksuni (10) Baekdu Mir (7) Kyu Jeu (4) Mindeulre Chukje
Next Best 5, 8
Fast Start 1, 9, 11

 Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(3) LUCKY BONGHWA was beaten a good ten-lengths into 2nd by the promising Mask a month ago but has shown enough to suggest he should have too much for this field here. He’s got one place better in each of his four starts today and can complete the final step into the winner’s circle here. (4) KHENDUM POWER has also been getting closer to a win, leading until close to home last time before having to settle for 2nd and can do similar today. (6) FIRST RUNNER and (7) UPDATE likewise haven’t been too far away in recent efforts and can get close. (10) MORE RICH was beaten by First Runner on his latest start two months ago but isn’t totally without a chance of overturning that form here.

Selections (3) Lucky Bonghwa (4) Khendum Power (6) First Runner (10) More Rich
Next Best 7, 5

Race 4: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Juveniles only here with two first-timers joining seven who have raced before. (9) GRAY GALAXY beat (6) GEUMSUN YOU on what was the latter’s debut on October 21st. Both are in the frame here as is (4) WOOSEORA ICHEON, who race for the first time since beating Gray Galaxy when running 2nd on debut on September 2nd. (2) ORANGE SOCKS and (5) (more…)

Seoul & Busan Sunday – Queens’ Tour Finale: Race-By-Race Preview (November 12)

Silver Wolf on Sunday gets the chance to make a clean sweep of the 2017 Queens’ Tour when she lines up at Busan Racecourse for the Gyeongnam Governor’s Cup. The Aussie-bred 5-year-old by Oratorio  narrowly won the Ttukseom Cup at Seoul in June but then romped away with the KNN Cup over a mile month later. She returns to Busan as favourite but having to go 2000M in a race in which she was 8th last year.

Along with winning the Ttukseom, KNN & Munhwa Ilbo Cups this year, Silver Wolf also found time to run 5th in the Korea Sprint (Pic: Ross Holburt)

The Cup is the highlight of a 6-race program at Busan from 12:40 to 17:05 while up at Seoul there are 11 races from 10:45 to 18:00. Here are the previews:

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

Small field of fillies to begin with and the champion jockey should get off to a winning start on (3) SAUVIGNON. She’s been getting closer over three starts to date and should have too much for these. (2) CUPID DOCTOR has also made a positive start to her career although Sauvignon’s experience over this distance is what gives her the edge. (4) RUBY BEOLKIN is two starts into a comeback following a layoff and was only narrowly beaten by Sauvignon last time so does have claims too but it’s slim pickings among the rest with possible (5) BABY STAR most likely to improve.

Selections (3) Sauvignon (2) Cupid Doctor (4) Ruby Beolkin (5) Baby Star
Next Best 1, 6
Fast Start 2, 3, 4

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

Two standouts here who both look close to their maiden wins. (8) WONDERFUL CHAMPION was a close 3rd over 1200M last time out and comes in fresh following eight weeks off. He’s not a fast starter but should be able to sit handy from gate 8 and finish strongly. The other likely one is (5) GIDONG DAEJANG. Much improved on first try at this distance last time out, he narrowly missed out on 2nd place and should make the running here. (9) STORMY also showed improvement when finishing 4th last time out while (1) JEGUKUI HUYE and (11) NEULPUREUN CHEONHA are also capable of finding the money.

Selections (8) Wonderful Champion (5) Gidong Daejang (9) Stormy (1) Jegukui Huye
Next Best 11, 10
Fast Start 5, 6, 7, 12

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / 60 Million

Three of these have raced before, five haven’t and of those with experience, both (2) CITY ANGEL and (3) HIGH BEAT ran 5th. Neither were particularly impressive although probably did enough to be reasonably well fancied here but we should give a chance to some of the debut-makers. (5) BACK TO BACK looks the pick of them following a swift showing in a trial at the end of October while both (1) ACE CANT and (4) HWANSANGUI BIT also showed they know what they are supposed to do and have every chance of going well first up.

Selections (5) Back To Back (2) City Angel (1) Ace Cant (3) High Beat
Next Best 4, 7
Fast Start 2, 4

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1000M) Allowance / 40 Million

(7) LUCKY MISS was a three-length winner on debut over this distance on October 14th and while she steps up in class today, she is favourite to strike again. There will be plenty looking to get on the early speed and (1) REBECCA and (3) NAMWON QUEEN are contenders to do just that and stay on for the business part of the race. The latter was 5th behind (11) PARTY POWER last start but is better drawn to overturn that form today. (12) (more…)

Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (November 11)

12 races in the South Korean capital on Saturday with the first at 10:45 and the last at 18:00. Here are the previews:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

Competitive opener and while (5) DAECHEON ACE was a long way back behind a good winner when running 3rd at this distance on October 15th, he did manage to beat a couple of these and showed enough to suggest he’s on an upward trajectory and could well score here. He’s likely to be away to a steady start along with (1) WONDERFUL LUCKY how has also been progressively closer in four outings to date and can continue that here. Off to a quick one should be (2) M.J. CAPTAIN and while he was one of those back behind Daecheon Ace last time, he can be given another chance here. (6) MORAN DONGBEAK and (10) ÉCLAIR BEAUTY are others in the hunt.

Selections (5) Daecheon Ace (1) Wonderful Lucky (2) M.J. Captain (10) Éclair Beauty
Next Best 6, 11
Fast Start 2, 8, 10, 11

Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Just eight runners here, half of whom have run once before and half who haven’t run at all. The experienced ones look the most likely and three of them; (4) HEUNG BARAM, (7) SEONGBUL CHAMP and (8) CHEONJI BOBAE put in reasonably encouraging debuts with Seongbul Champ getting the narrow nod at this moment in time but really it would be no surprise if any of them managed to push on here. The other one who raced before, (1) SINBIRYONG weakened badly over 1200M on October 15th, behind Cheonji Bobae and could also go better at the minimum today. Among the debut-makers, (6) SEOUL STORY was the eye-catcher in trials.

Selections (7) Seongbul Champ (4) Heung Baram (6) Seoul Story (8) Cheonji Bobae
Next Best 1, 5
Fast Start 5, 6, 7, 8

Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

(4) NAM SON was a swift 2nd on debut on October 14th running on pleasingly and stepping up to 1300M today with the champion jockey on board, will be a warm favourite to make the breakthrough. (5) MACH SEUNGNI and (7) BAEKSAN GUNJU – the latter having beaten a couple of these last time – look best placed to challenge the favourite having both shown glimpses in their two starts so far. The other one that’s potentially interesting is (8) GUREUM SONJITHAE. He was reasonably well-backed on debut following a promising trial but didn’t do an awful lot. He could be better at the slightly extended distance today.

Selections (4) Nam Son (5) Mach Seungni (7) Baeksan Gunju (8) Gureum Sonjithae
Next Best 3
Fast Start 4, 8

Race 4: Class 5 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Up in class following his maiden win on his first try at this distance at the end of September (1) SMART CAMP should be firmly in the frame once more. He won by four-lengths last time having been prominent throughout and while this is stiffer, he has every chance. However, the likely favourite is another one up in class having also landed his breakthrough win at 1700M. That’s (5) SIMON RICH who defeated (6) SHAR NAO by two lengths on October 14th. That win had been coming and he looks equally as well-in (more…)

Seoul & Busan Sunday – Triple Nine vs Power Blade in the President’s Cup: Race-By-Race Preview (November 5)

Triple Nine heads into Sunday’s President’s Cup (KOR G1) at Seoul Racecourse looking to match Dangdae Bulpae’s feat of three consecutive wins in what is the nation’s most valuable race restricted to Domestic-bred horses. More likely though is that we witness a changing of the guard of sorts as stablemate Power Blade will be favourite to assert his own claim to be top of the Korean racing tree.

D3

Power Blade won the Korean Derby this year. He gets the chance to depose Triple Nine in the President’s Cup (Pic: Ross Holburt)

That transition is almost complete. Both went to the Dubai World Cup Carnival and represented Korea with extremely creditable performances but since they’ve come back, it’s Power Blade who has gone on to excel. That’s not to say that Triple Nine is demonstrably any worse; just that that Power Blade has got better and better and the younger horse has already downed Triple Nine at distances of 1400M and a Mile.

Neither are straightforward horses. Power Blade needs urging all the way around while Triple Nine takes a very long time to reach his top gear. It’s those factors which combine with the 2000M distance of the President’s Cup that gives Triple Nine backers a glimmer of hope. Power Blade now though, is good enough to extinguish it.

Traditionally in Korea this would be the race where the top three-year-olds of the year faced their older counterparts in a Group race for the first time. Indeed, Korean Derby winner Final Boss takes his chance. Similar to the two favourites, he is anything but straightforward but on his day, looks an exceptional talent. Daeho Sidae, who beat Final Boss in the final leg of the Triple Crown also goes.

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(1) DUSON EYE just missed out by a neck over 1000M on October 1st and he’s the pick to go one better here, likely leading all the way. (2) SKY CAMP has been 3rd in both his starts so far, albeit in less than exalted company and there’s no reason why that record can’t continue here. He’ll likely join Duson Eye up front early. (5) GEUMEUN JUOK was well back behind Duson Eye on latest effort but had shown glimpses of talent before while debut-maker (3) BAEKDUUI JEONGSANG has to be given a chance in this company having trialled up in decent fashion last month.

Selections (1) Duson Eye (2) Sky Camp (3) Baekduui Jeongsang (5) Geumeun Juok
Next Best 9, 11

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(8) HIGH STAR comes in having run 3rd and 4th in her latest two, both of them similarly modest contests to this one. She’s not necessarily the fastest of starters but will run on and could get her maiden win here. (3) O.J. HWAK DAB gets a fresh start today. She’s not been convincing in two outings to date but looked much improved when trialling up in October and can be backed here. (2) SOJUNGHAN SEONGBUL’s latest two have been too difficult and she should be much happier today – the champion jockey riding her will (more…)

Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (November 4)

It’s turned cold in Korea! Saturday sees 12 races at Seoul from 10:45 to 18:00. Here are the previews:

Race 1: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

Fillies only to kick us off and (9) AMENDA has come close in her latest and arrives here looking ready to win. She needs a good start but so long as she gets it, she’ll be hard to beat. (1) C.K. QUEEN a bit unexpectedly showed some form racing 3rd last start in similar strength company and could follow up here while (3) SEOURI BYEOL has taken some time getting into top gear in her two outings so far and should appreciate the longer trip today. Two of (7) YEOWOORI’s starts so far have been in big juvenile races so clearly she is rated at home and we’ll expect improvement today while (6) DORAON PACHYAI did show some of the aforementioned improvement on latest effort and can go close again.

Selections (9) Amenda (3) Seouri Byeol (1) C.K. Queen (7) Yeowoori
Next Best 6, 10
Fast Start 4, 7, 9

Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

(6) CLEAN UP TEUKGEUP was first past the post on debut on October 1st but was subsequently demoted to 2nd for interfering with the 2nd placed horse. The one that got promoted that day went on to win again well last week so we’ll expect Clean Up Teukgeup to do things cleanly today. (2) STRONG CAPTAIN was 2nd behind a good winner last time and can get even closer here while likewise (8) JUMEOK DOKKI showed good improvement over 1200M three weeks ago and looks set for another good run. The sole debut-maker is (3) FLYING HERA and she looked competent enough in trials.

Selections (6) Clean Up Teukgeup (8) Jumeok Dokki (2) Strong Captain (3) Flying Hera
Next Best 9, 1
Fast Start 4, 6, 7

Race 3:  Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

(11) MENI JILJU was just beaten a nose on a much improved second outing at the beginning of September. She comes back in off nine weeks off and while this looks stiffer, she has solid claims here. (8) SKY MARINE similarly was 2nd on her second start at the end of last month and should join Meni Jilju on the early pace. (5) TAMNA YEOSIN faded badly on debut but is bound to be well backed with the champion jockey on board today having previously looked to have promise in trials. There are three debut-makers and among them, (6) DAECHEONUI SARANG took a couple of attempts to qualify but looked good when doing so three weeks ago and can be backed first-up in this company.

Selections (11) Meni Jilju (8) Sky Marine (6) Daecheonui Sarang (5) Tamna Yeosin
Next Best 4, 12
Fast Start 5, 6, 8, 11

Race 4: Class 5 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Small but competitive field here and while the up in class (5) PHEONIX HEART remains a maiden, he’s shown enough over three starts so far to suggest that shouldn’t be the case for too much longer. He came close over 1200M last time, beaten by a good winner and despite the rise in level, there’s nothing here that should worry him too much. Also up in class but in her case following a victory, (7) BEST MAID should be competitive as well (more…)

Sunday Seoul & Busan: Race-By-Race Preview (October 29)

On Saturday at Seoul, Choinma won the capital’s top juvenile race. On Sunday it’s Busan’s turn to find the best among its latest crop as eight 2-year-olds contest the Gimhae Mayor’s Cup. There are 11 races at Seoul from 10:45 to 18:00 and 6 at Busan from 12:40 to 17:05.

Choinma

Choinma won Seoul’s top juvenile race on Saturday. It’s Busan’s turn to find a young champion on Sunday. (Pic: KRA)

Just as Seoul’s race was yesterday, the Gimhae Mayor’s looks a fascinating contest. GC Trophy winner World Sun produced a remarkable finish to win that race, beating two of his rivals here and likely enters as favourite. However, Sin Stealth got the better of him back in August ad is likely to be a danger again. Thomas Gillespie saddles a promising pair in the shape of Yeonghui Sidae and Gyeongjuui Durebak while Kim Young Kwan’s duo of Ecton Blade and Captain Force both have claims of their own.

Only Seoul is available on international simulcast (North America/Australia) today. Notes on the races as follows:

Race 1: Class 5 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

(4) JANGSAN JEPAE stepped up to 1300M last time but weakened a little late on and ended up in 4th place. Dropped back to the minimum distance today, where she already has a win and a 2nd place to her name – the latter at this class – she is going to be hard to beat. The up in class (3) HWANAE JANGSEONG made all for her maiden win over 1300M last start and should be on pace once more here with good claims to be competitive while (10) BULHUUI SEUNGJA is yet to win but also finds herself up in class after a few too many near misses. Likewise there is no reason why she can’t cope with this level. The more experienced pair of (8) DESERT EAGLE and (11) EVER A ONE don’t look likely winners but are capable of finding the money in this company.

Selections (4) Jangsan Jepae (3) Hwanae Jangseong (10) Bulhuui Seungja (11) Ever A One
Next Best 8, 12
Fast Start 3, 4, 9, 11

Race 2: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

(1) CALLIOPE was a convincing four-length winner on debut over 1000M a month ago and returns today up in both class and distance but still favourite to score in what is quite a strong looking contest for this level. Aside from the favourite, four others are also up in class following their maiden wins and among them (4) MAGIC TEN, looks the best. True, she won her maiden in the Stewards’ room but her and the “winner” were a full nine lengths clear of the rest of the field and she shows promise as does (11) SEUNGRI SIDAE, a three-length winner over 1300M on September 30th. Among those already at this level, (3) JANGSAN JEGUK’s latest was in tough juvenile company so he gets another chance while (10) BLUE LANCE returned from almost a year out at the start of this month and ran encouragingly enough to suggest there is improvement in store.

Selections (1) Calliope (4) Magic Ten (3) Jangsan Jeguk (11) Seungri Sidae
Next Best 10, 9

Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Juveniles only here and just four of them have raced before. It’s among those we find out top two though with (3) J.S. STORM the pick. He debuted in 4th place all the way back at the end of July but returned to action in a swift September trial and can score here. (8) VICTORY STAR was 3rd on debut on September 23rd, beating (6) CHEONGDAM QUEENS in the process. She ran on very nicely over 1000M after a slow start and should appreciate (more…)

Seoul Saturday: Gwacheon Mayor’s Cup Race-By-Race Preview (October 28)

Seoul’s top Juvenile will be decided on Saturday afternoon as fourteen two-year-olds line up for the Gwacheon Mayor’s Cup. The winner will look to go on to emulate Final Boss by becoming overall Juvenile Champion at the Breeders’ Cup next month before heading to the Triple Crown trial in 2018. Full preview of that – and all of Saturday’s 12 races (10:45 to 18:00) are below:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

Two first-time starters join ten who have each run just once before for the opener and as none of those ten particularly caught the eye on debut, we’re going to give a chance to (5) FUNKY TRAIN to score at the first time of asking. He trialled up well and there’s no reason why he can’t win this. The other debut-maker, (7) GANADORA is not without claims either while among the ones who have already raced, (3) DAE BYEONHWA, (8) BANGGEURI and (11) MERLIN look best.

(5) ÉCLAIR BEAUTY has taken part in three tough races so far and can be forgiven her latest effort. She looks second choice here with (3) BULSA BULPAE, (6) MAIN EVENT and the more experienced (10) WIND POWER others who have claims on getting into the places.

(5) ALL OF ME was a creditable 2nd on debut, four-lengths adrift of a good winner and she has strong claims to go one better here, likely leading from the start. Seven of the twelve race for the first time and it’s among those we encounter the main dangers. (2) PALDO DAEJANG looked very sharp winning a trial last month while (3) BIG EAR put in a very fast time in a competitive heat. Both have top jockeys on board and will be backed while similarly (10) RAON DOLPUNG should also go well first-up. Among the others with experience, (8) MAX THUNDER, the only one with two starts behind her, looks best.

Race 4: Class 6 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

Tricky contest this especially with all but one of them racing at the distance for the first time. That one (5) FIRE didn’t go especially well at it but did improve in one start since and may be considered for the minor money. Favourites look to be (3) BEST MISSION and (12) NEULPUREUN CHEONHA. They were both 3rd in their latest efforts but it’s the latter (more…)

KRA Cup Classic: Clean Up Joy vs Cheongdam Dokki (Race-By-Race Preview – October 22)

It’s the showdown that we’ve been waiting for. At least for the past three months anyway. It was disappointing that both Clean Up Joy and Cheongdam Dokki swerved the Korea Cup last month but they finally do meet at Seoul Racecourse on Sunday, taking top billing in the local Group 2 KRA Cup Classic. There are 11 Sunday races at Seoul from 10:45 to 18:00 and 6 at Busan from 12:40 to 17:10.

Here are today’s Seoul notes:

Race 1: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

Twelve fillies to kick things off and this looks a slightly softer ask for (3) P.K. TIME than when she could only manage 3rd place when favourite over 1000M on September 9th. This is her first try at the distance but she should be at the front early and can go all the way. (5) FOR J.K and (10) FIORE finished 3rd and 4th when racing each other over 1200M a month ago and both should be competitive here with Fiore fancied to overturn that form while the more experienced (12) DONGSEO GADEUK should be getting close in this company too. Similarly experienced, (7) STORMY PASSION is another to take into consideration.

Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Juvenile race with enhanced prize money sees seven of the twelve racing for the first time. However, it’s from those with experience that we draw our top picks. Both (2) GLOBAL BANK and (3) THE JIJON came home in 2nd place on their respective debuts in September and it’s The Jijon, who led until the closing stages over 1200M, who is favoured to score here with Global Bank having to settle for 2nd once more. They’re both (more…)

Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (October 21)

There are 12 Saturday races at Seoul from 10:45 to 18:00:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(11) BROWN BOMBER ran a solid race in 2nd place at this distance on what was just his second outing on September 16th. He ran on nicely, finishing strongly and while he may probably want a little bit further in the long term, this race looks eminently winnable for him. Not much else catches the eye, to be honest. (2) MORAN DONGBEAK has shown improvement across her three starts so far and looks to be second best but all of the others are going to need to show something they haven’t looked like doing so far. Something has to fill the places though with (3) BIG AURORA, (5) JI SEONI and (10) CULLINAN perhaps most likely.

Selections (11) Brown Bomber (2) Moran Dongbeak  (5) Ji Seoni (3) Big Aurora

Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(4) FIRST RUNNER enters having been 3rd on each of his latest two, although both were at 1700M and he gets dropped back in trip today. He should still get close but there are a couple of others who also look to have claims on a maiden win here. (6) CAPTAIN POWER was much improved on his third outing a month ago, beating (1) SHARP KAYLAN, who also showed progress that day with both in the prize money hunt here. (3) CLEAN UP SECRET has come home in 5th place on both of his outings so far but he was beaten by decent ones last time at this distance and can get closer here. (11) FIRST QUEEN is another who has come close in the past and who can’t be ruled out today.

Race 3: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Only three of the twelve have raced before but all of those three did quite well and are likely to be well backed here. (2) SIMPLE RULES led for much of her debut and while she ended a well-beaten 3rd, it was a strong showing for a debut she has solid claims today. (11) PRIMO was 4th in a similarly competitive race on September 9th while (12) SEUNGJAUI MISO finished in the same position over 1200M a week later. Both should join Simple Rules on the early speed and can go well again. Among the first-time starters (more…)
