Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (March 31)

There are 11 races at Seoul on Saturday from 10:45 to 18:00:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

Maiden race in which four of the twelve are racing for the very first time and among them, there are a couple with the potential to win first-up. Both (2) MAGIC ROAD and (12) MYEONGJIN MAN looked very competent in trials. Magic Road is out of a dam who won seven of her fourteen races in Korea while Myeongjin Man is a Drosselmeyer colt who was imported in-utero. We are, however, going to come down on the side of racecourse experience and (11) HIN BYEOL ran on very nicely for 3rd on debut at the end of February and can come out on top today. The debut-makers look to be the main danger while (3) BROWN ROSE debuted in a stiffer contest than this and should improve for it. (9) SURFING POINT was bad on debut three weeks ago but trialled up well before that and can improve today.

Selections (11) Hin Byeol (12) Myeongjin Man (2) Magic Road (9) Surfing Point

Race 2: Class 5 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Hansen filly (11) GEOSEN MAPUNG got promoted to this level without a win but acquitted herself very nicely when finishing 3rd on February 25th at this distance with (5) GUREUM SONJITHAE some way back in 7th. She overcame gate 12 that day and can do similar again today. (4) CREMOA POWER is up in class following victory over 1300M all the way back in January. He’s had twelve weeks off since then and drops back to in trip but should be a threat. (7) DALDARI enters following 2nd and 3rd places in her two starts so far this year and may be considered while (12) HANIL MAGIC steps back in trip following two reasonably encouraging efforts at 1300M and can be in the placing frame.

Selections (11) Geosen Mapung (7) Daldari (4) Cremoa Power (12) Hanil Magic

Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

Last weekend was a good one for David Breux and the French jockey can keep his winning form going here by riding (3) FLYING JOY to victory. The colt has been 3rd in each of his latest two and should be on the early speed here. (9) HADALRAE was an encouraging 4th on debut on March 3rd, making up a lot of ground in the closing stages. That was at 1000M and the step up in trip today should suit. (5) MORAN DONGBEAK has also run on pleasingly enough in her latest two and looks to have at least placing claims here while (2) ROAN GANGHO wasn’t too far away at the distance last time and should also be involved today. (6) KING POSE ran poorly last time but comes in off seven weeks out and gets another chance.

Selections (3) Flying Joy (9) Hadalrae (5) Moran Dongbeak (2) Raon Gangho

Race 4: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Competitive race this featuring plenty of imports, some of whom have a bit of promise about them. Three stand-out. (3) SAMSAM VICTORY is a winner already, having prevailed over 1200M in January. He then went on to beat three of his rivals here on reappearance on February 24th when running 4th at this distance. He can sit behind the early lead here and can run well. However, the ones Samsan Victory beat last time aren’t expected to be the main dangers here. (4) TOSCONOVA CAT hasn’t raced since Christmas Eve but he had shown plenty of potential in four starts prior to that and can be dangerous first-up here, most likely from on the early speed. (5) NASCAUI TAEYANG is from the Song Moon Gil stable that has hit a rich vein of form over the past couple of weekends and he could well keep it going here. He drops back in trip after a creditable 3rd at 1800M at the end of February and surely goes close. (8) NAMCHON ARTIST and (11) MEGALIOS look best of the rest.

Race 5: Class 6 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

Another competitive event in which all ten of these three-year-old maidens are trying their hand around 1700M – and indeed at two-turns – for the first time. (5) RACE BEATER beat (1) CUPID STORM as the pair came home 4th and 5th over 1300M on March 3rd. They have contrasting styles with Cupid Storm a front-runner and Race Beater more of a closer but they both should be involved in the finish with Race Beater favoured to prevail. (3) KAY ONE has shown glimpses of ability so far and is likely to be on speed here with Cupid Storm and could stay on while (8) CHANGSEONG GANGJA has so far run out of track just at the time when he has looked like being ready to wake up so may appreciate the distance. The other “Cupid”, (7) CUPID DATE is another who will be on speed early and is another who can improve.

Selections (5) Race Beater (1) Cupid Storm (8) Changseong Gangja (3) Kay One

Race 6: Class 5 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

(10) WONDERFUL LUCKY likes this distance and in two starts so far in 2018, he’s run 2nd and 1st at it. That meant a maiden win at the eighth time of asking on February 24th and he is accordingly up in class today and should be in with a shout of repeating. The other two up in class, (5) YAHO AURORA and (9) ONLY BARAM would both seem to have a bit more to find so the dangers are more likely to come from those with experience of this class. (11) CHO ORONG MA was 2nd at class and distance last start on March 3rd having led early and rallied late. She most likely won’t be on the early speed today from a wide draw but can finish well again. (2) ECTON SINWHA tries the distance for the first time and should be competitive while (7) DICE KING is a little inconsistent but has previously shown ability at both class and distance and may be considered.

Selections (10) Wonderful Lucky (11) Cho Orong Ma (1) J Baek (2) Ecton Sinhwa

Race 7: Class 3 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Small field here and (5) MIGHTY SSING, a winner of three form six so far, can keep his run going on what will be his first attempt at two-turns. The Congrats colt was a smart winner at this class over 1400M last start and should have no problem with the additional trip today. It took (2) STORM NAVY SEAL a while to figure things out but the Aussie import by Sepoy has won his latest two and steps up in both class and distance in good form and is in the hunt as well. (7) REWARD HIGH and (4) TOTAL WALKER come in having finished 4th and 5th respectively over 1800M at the beginning of this month and both should be in the placing frame while (9) HWAGANG and the up in class (6) BORN WARRIOR are others to take into account.

Selections (5) Mighty Ssing (2) Storm Navy Seal (4) Total Walker (6) Born Warrior

Race 8: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(7) MUSA made all and toughed it out to secure a narrow victory over 1300M on February 24th, moving to three wins from five starts. His only defeats have been on debut all the way back in August and in a big juvenile race on Christmas Ever. While not always the most straightforward of types, he’s the best horse here and should win. Both (5) HAE HU and (6) GIDONG DAEJANG are useful animals too and both enter off good wins last time, the latter up in class today. Hae Hu will likely join Musa on speed early while Gidong Daejang will take a sit behind and both can be dangerous in the latter part of the race. Those three should dispute the prizes although both (8) MIRAE DEUNGBUL and (10) TONGIL DAERO are capable of being involved too.

Selections (7) Musa (5) Hae Hu (6) Gidong Daejang (8) Mirae Deungbul

Race 9: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Five of these raced each other in a similar filly/mare only race at class and distance on February 24th and among them, it was the unfancied (8) EAGLE SOCKS, who was 11th of 12 on the board, who finished the best of them, running a very good 2nd. Accordingly, she warrants a bit more respect today and will be much more fancied. We’re still going to look for her to get beaten though. (1) WAWA YEOJANGBU was favourite in that race but ended up in 3rd. She can get to the front once more here and this time could go all the way. Among the others who went that day, both (11) DANGDANGHANYEOGEOL and (10) SIMON MISSILE were a touch disappointing but can be backed to improve. To find the main danger, however, we turn to one who didn’t run in that race. (2) CHOROK JILJU enters in good shape with a 3rd and 4th from her latest two, both times in good company and can get even closer today.

Selections (1) Wawa Yeojangbu (2) Chorok Jilju (10) Simon Missile (8) Eagle Socks
