With Jeju Racecourse taking its midsummer break this weekend, there are bumper cards at both Busan and Seoul on Friday and Saturday respectively. Things get underway at Busan on Friday where there are 14 races from 14:30 to 21:00.

It’s Friday. It’s Busan
Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million
A maiden to begin with and it’s not a strong one. (1) B.K. UNO ticks most boxes having shown a bit of development across five outings so far and was a decent 4th against better than today’s opposition last time on June 24th. He should go close. (3) USEUNG TICKET finished 5th in that June race and can continue her development under a top jockey today. (9) MUCHO improved into 2nd last start albeit in even weaker company than this. He’ll be quickly out of the gate and is a contender. Also likely to be on speed early is (2) NOPIGOM DODASHA, two starts into a comeback after a long absence and not without ability. (4) SONGAK MYEONGJANG is one start into a comeback of his own and went promisingly enough last time.
Selections | (1) B.K. Uno (9) Mucho (3) Useung Ticket (4) Songak Myeongjang |
Next Best | 2, 11 |
Fast Start | 2, 8, 9 |
Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million
(3) WINNER CINDY is the only one of these to have a 2nd place to her name, achieved on her latest start three weeks ago. It was at this distance and she came close to making all in arguably tougher company than this and she can go all the way this time. (7) SWEEP MAN has been knocking at the door for some time now. He was only beaten half a length by Winner Cindy when 4th at this distance in June and Bart Rice’s colt looks the main danger here. (1) THUNDER GLORY raced three times without success last autumn but looked a better prospect on her return after seven months off at the end of June. (4) THUNDER QUEEN offered few clues in a forgettable debut three weeks ago but had previously trialed well and may improve today.
Selections | (3) Winner Cindy (7) Sweep Man (1) Thunder Glory (4) Thunder Queen |
Next Best | 6, 5, 2 |
Fast Start | 1, 3, 4 |
Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million
Two standouts here should be battling it out with one another. (2) CHEONNYEONUI ACHIM has a 3rd and a 2nd from two outings to date, the latest of which was at this distance when he beat Winner Cindy (who we saw in race 2). A win shouldn’t be far off and it really should arrive today. He’ll likely try to lead all the way as will main rival (7) PERFECT ACE. After a slightly underwhelming debut in May, he returned on June 22nd to run a strong 2nd over 1300M, leading until the closing stages and has a chance of hanging on this time. All (5) SANDY managed to do on debut was get tailed-off and sent back to trial. She’s had four months off since then and the subsequent trial went very nicely so we’ll give her another chance here. (6) BAEDARI SINHWA and (8) ON DAY are others who can improve.
Selections | (2) Cheonnyeonui Achim (7) Perfect Ace (6) Baedari Sinhwa (5) Sandy |
Next Best | 8, 1, 3 |
Fast Start | 2, 7 |
Race 4: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million
Indifferent across three starts around the turn of the year, (5) WONDERFUL STORY has looked a much better horse since returning after five months off in June, running 3rd and 2nd, both at this distance and he can make the breakthrough here. (6) P.K. NINE ran a much-improved 2nd on what was his fourth start three weeks ago and will probably be the main danger. Both those will likely take a sit early behind (3) MR. COLORS, who has struggled on his latest two but had previously offered a hit of talent and is carrying significantly less weight today. (4) CHEONJI KINGS ran well last time on what was just his second start while (7) RENAISSANCE MAN did nothing wrong when 3rd on debut four weeks ago and can look to match that finish here.
Selections | (5) Wonderful Story (6) P.K. Nine (7) Renaissance Man (4) Cheonji Kings |
Next Best | 3 |
Fast Start | 3, 4, 7 |
Race 5: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million
There is an interesting debut-maker here in the shape of (3) QUICK MOVE. She’s the solitary first-time starter but looked very competent trailing two weeks ago and looks to have a genuine chance first up here. She’ll probably be ridden to the front early and can go all the way. (1) BAEKDU QUEEN registered her second 3rd place finish last time over 1200M and is likely to be in the hunt here while (8) FIRST VICTORY also ran 3rd on what was just his second career start four weeks ago and can build on it here. (2) HORTENSE ran promisingly on debut in June and while she only beat one home when well-backed on reappearance at this distance two weeks ago, is worth another chance here. (6) TIME SPEC too is capable of finding places, having been not too far away in better company than this of late.
Selections | (3) Quick Move (8) First Victory (1) Baekdu Queen (6) Time Spec |
Next Best | 2, 7 |
Fast Start | 3 |
Race 6: Class 5 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
(4) MISS PERFECT was an eye-catching five-length winner on what was just her second start on June 22nd. It was a fast time too and while she is up in class here, she’ll be favoured to repeat, leading all the way. (9) GOLDEN KNIGHT got up to win by a nose at this class and distance on July 8th. The wide draw shouldn’t be a problem and he can finish strongly once more. (3) HURRICANE DREAM returned from five months out to run a good 4th at the distance on June 17th. She remains a maiden but has proven competitive in this kind of company and can go close. (1) SHARP KING overcame long-odds to run 2nd in a similar race four weeks ago and should get more respect today. (6) TIME QUEEN was a winner on debut in June 29th and though she probably has a little more to find than Miss Perfect, should be capable of being competitive in this company.
Selections | (4) Miss Perfect (9) Golden Knight (6) Time Queen (3) Hurricane Dream |
Next Best | 1, 7 |
Fast Start | 4, 6, 7 |
Race 7: Class 4 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
(5) SMART DANCER enters having won her latest three in fine fashion, all at this distance, with the latest being at this class, with a couple of rivals here behind her, on July 1st. She carries a bit more weight today but is favoured to take her winning streak to four. If she does come unstuck, (4) BAENGNYEON SONNIM may be best placed to take advantage. He was one of those behind Smart Dancer on July 1st but backed up quickly two weeks ago with a decent 4th which he can build on today. (6) ONLY BLUE returned from nine months off to run a solid 3rd at 1200M last month and can at least match that here while both (3) GOP DDA and first time starter (8) I’M YOUR UNCLE look to have placing claims too.
Selections | (5) Smart Dancer (4) Baengnyeon Sonnim (8) I’m Your Uncle (6) Only Blue |
Next Best | 3, 2 |
Fast Start | 1, 2, 3 |
Race 8: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
This is a nice little race and the verdict goes to (5) FLASHY MISS, who has a win and a 2nd place since returning from six months out in June. She came up short when favourite last time out but can get it right today. (9) SUPERNOVA IJI was a good 3rd, just half a length behind Flashy Miss that day but it will be others who will be expected to get closer here. (2) BLACK ARROW is up in class having registered a good win at the second time of asking over 1300M a month ago while (8) WIDAEHAN BISANG was a four-length winner on debut on July 8th and steps up in distance as well as in difficulty level. Both should go close. (1) HOTHAE ran poorly when well-backed two weeks ago but is worth another chance here, while (4) BUGYEONG BOLT races for the first time since April and could start to deliver on what was some potential displayed in his early races.
Selections | (5) Flashy Miss (2) Black Arrow (8) Widaehan Bisang (1) Hothae |
Next Best | 4, 7 |
Fast Start | 3, 5 |
Race 9: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
Very tricky contest involving plenty with solid claims. (1) STORM GOLD had a hard time over 1400M on what was his first try at this class on June 15th. He’s had six weeks off since and dropped back marginally in trip today, he should go much better. It’s a similar story with the Peter Wolsley-trained pair of (4) JAESAENGMYEONGNI and (9) KING LION, both of whom struggled on the first attempts at this level last time out but who are both worth another chance. King Lion actually beat (5) BOBAE DREAM back on May 25th on what was both their debuts. Bobae Dream followed up with another 2nd place over 1000M at the end of June and steps up in class and distance here but should be competitive. (8) BYEOL GEURIDA enters off an improved 2nd over 1200M five weeks ago and should be one of a number on the early p[ace here.
Selections | (1) Storm Gold (5) Bobae Dream (4) Jaesaengmyeongni (8) Byeol Geurida |
Next Best | 11, 7 |
Fast Start | 3, 4, 5, 8 |
Race 10: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
Another competitive contest with many potential winners. Aussie import (6) GOOD BAND looks to be figuring things out and enters with recent form reading positively. She’s had eight weeks off since running 3rd at 1200M on June 1st and can sit behind the early speed here and finish strongly. (4) JAEGOYAKUI BANSEOK is up in class after a narrow victory by a neck at this distance in a domestic class 5 race four weeks ago. If he gets a good start again, he could well lead all the way. Also entering a winner is (5) POINT LUCK. It took him eleven goes to get it right but the Discreetly Mine colt came from well back to win at this class over 1200M two weeks ago and could strike again. (3) CHEONNYEONDONGANDO and (9) GOLD PRINTING are others who should be firmly in the hunt.
Selections | (6) Good Band (4) Jaedoyakui Banseok (5) Point Luck (9) Gold Printing |
Next Best | 3, 2 |
Fast Start | 3, 4, 8, 9 |
Race 11: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
Once more a wildly competitive affair with at least six of the nine having credible claims. (9) HEAD TO HEAD is the narrow pick having almost managed to lead gate to wire over 1400M four weeks ago. He got caught in the closing stages but steps back slightly in trip today and could secure a maiden win. (7) MANNAMUI SIJAK and (6) USEUNG HWANHO came home 1st and 2nd at this distance back in April. Mannamui Sijak stepped up this class at the end of May and ran well, coming home 4th, while Useung Hwanho scored another class 5 2nd three weeks ago to be promoted today. Both have at least placing claims here. (4) KOREAN FORCE remains a maiden after nine attempts but was within a length when running 3rd over 1200M two weeks ago. (1) JET SKY and (5) CHERRY VANQUISH have each raced three times and both look to be figuring things out.
Selections | (9) Head To Head (4) Korean Force (7) Mannamui Sijak (5) Cherry Vanquish |
Next Best | 6, 1 |
Fast Start | 2, 6, 9 |
Race 12: Class 3 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million
Having won three of his first five starts, (9) HIDDDEN CHAMP ran in both the Korean Derby and Minister’s Cup in May and June finishing mid-position both times. He was scratched from a scheduled start two weeks ago having come down with a mild colic but back healthy today, can return to winning ways. He’ll try to get to the front from the outside gate and should be able to stay on. (1) DANGCHAN JILJU beat four of these on his way to victory over a mile four weeks ago and while he carries an extra 3kg today and goes back up in trip, can go very close again. He’ll likely challenge Hiddden Champ for the early lead. (2) KING SIMON and (7) BRACHAH are both among those who have been beaten by Dangchan Jilju recently but both look to have solid placing claims here with (4) RED YOUNG MYEONGUN another in the hunt.
Selections | (9) Hiddden Champ (1) Dangchan Jilju (2) King Simon (7) Brachah |
Next Best | 4, 8 |
Fast Start | 1, 2, 9 |
Race 13: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
It took (7) RISING AGAIN twelve races to get his maiden win but he evidently enjoyed it as he came back out a month later and won again. On this latest occasion, he beat three of his rivals here on his way to a seven-length score over 1400M and while up in distance and significantly in weight today, he can win again. The three who return after chasing him home that day, (9) JOEUN HAE, (1) CHOEGANG OFFICER and (8) BANJIUI JANGMI all have chances to go close here, especially perennial place-getter Joeun Hae. Among those who didn’t go in that race, (5) VIVA VICTORY is a solid and proven performer at this class and should be a factor although the up in class trio of (2) FINAL ENERGY, (4) NANGMAN JEONSA and (11) DAEHO MYEONGGA can’t be completely ruled out.
Selections | (7) Rising Again (9) Joeun Hae (2) Final Energy (5) Viva Victory |
Next Best | 1, 8, 11 |
Fast Start | 2, 5, 7 |
Race 14: Class 2 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million
(5) ACE KOREA found himself a little overmatched when given his chance in Seoul at the SBS Sports Sprint at the beginning of June but after a bit of time off, he’s back in what should be far more amenable company. He’s giving weight to all of his rivals but should have too much for them. (11) TAEYANGUI SINHWA ran a strong 2nd over 1400M three weeks ago and should be dangerous under Fergus Sweeney while (1) TRIPLE PARTY and (4) LOAD CELL are also proven performers who can go close. (6) BAEDARI BOBAE too has plenty of experience at this level and higher and should be in at least the placing frame.
Selections | (5) Ace Korea (1) Triple Party (11) Taeyangui Sinhwa (6) Baedari Bobae |
Next Best | 4. 9 |
Fast Start | 4, 5, 8, 10 |
