Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
Two-year-olds to kick off proceedings with just two runners previously lining up in the race. (11) GUEOKMAAL looks to one to beat based on trial performances. The Officer filly clocked a very quick time in comparison to her opponents here. She showed plenty of speed in her trial, we think she will work forward at all costs and find the fence. (8) GEOSEN DOLPUNG is another that was impressive when winning his trial. The Take Charge Indy colt worked forward with Lee Hyeok asking him to keep his mind on the job at the furlong pole. (7) CHANGI CHARM looks capable of figuring on debut. The filly looks to be best drawn of the pacemakers, she should be able to work across from a central draw early and sit prominent in the run. (9) LAGERTHA looks next best in a race with plenty of unknown factors.
Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
It’s hard to see (1) DDAENGBEOL being beaten here. The Rock Hard Ten colt ran 3rd in what was an admittedly slowly run race on debut back in June but returned to win a trial in a fast time at the end of October. From the inside Antonio Da Silva is unlikely to waste too much time getting to the front and he should win. That’s primarily because the rest aren’t up to much. (8) SEONBONG GOLD ran a semi-creditable time on debut at the distance last month – faster than any of the others have managed – and that’s probably enough to make her second-favourite. (4) GANGHAN YEOJEONSA didn’t show much during the summer season but has at least got a runner-up finish to her name and has placing chances here. Of the two first-timer starters, (10) HAWK QUEEN has the best chance of making an impact first-up.
Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
Korean-bred maiden galloper to line up over the 1300m in the third. There is no standout in the race but (10) MIR SKY looks to be one of the main chances on her performances back in July. The Federalist filly comes off successive placings when hitting the line strong on both occasions. She’s unlikely to show early speed but will be doing her best work late. (6) SAND POWER is never too far away and has each way claims in the event. The Rock Hard Ten colt’s most recent run was back in August when fourth behind Korean Pearl in a better field than this. (9) K N WONDERFUL reeled off a good final sectional last time out when finishing second behind Mussang Hwanghu. The gelding is likely to settle well back, Antonio Da Silva cannot let him get too far back otherwise minor money may be best case scenario. If (7) BRAVO MAY can improve on his debut performance, he looks another that is capable of collecting a cheque.

(11) WILD KINGDOM has shown plenty of speed across his six starts so far. True he has just the solitary win to his name, an all the way emphatic score over 1400M in June, nut there looks to be more to come. Draw a line through his latest 6th place in October. (9) RAPIDO ARES has also caught the eye over her three outings. Her win came at 1200M and she ran on well for 2nd on her first try at this class back in August. She is versatile having performed well when on pace and from when coming from further back and she should go close today. Both (6) CAPTAIN BRAVO and (7) GANA PARK struggled a little on their respective first tries at this class but both have the potential to improve and along with (3) GIVEN RUNNER look the most credible options for the minor money.

Seoul Race 5: Class 6 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
Another maiden event for the Korean-breds where a compact field of ten line up over the seven furlongs. (4) WHITE WING is the on top selection as she lines up for her second career start. The Concord Point filly overcame a wide draw on debut before sitting midfield, running through the line strong to finish third. With a better draw today, Park Eul-woon can let her find her feet naturally before settling her just of speed. If she finishes off in similar fashion to last start she can take out the event. (3) SHINY QUEEN brings some good formlines into the race finishing third and fourth respectively to Goldilocks and Never Walk Alone. She seems to have improved with a few more starts under her belt, treat her as a winning chance. (6) MENI STORM looks a place chance if she can improve a couple of lengths. The filly ran through the line well last start when she was tried over this distance for the first time. (7) THUNDER WIND looks next best after finishing fourth behind Alchan Nuri last month.

Busan Race 2: Class 5 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
The Class Five gallopers line up in the fifth event over 1600m. (6) BORNE MATTA comes off a good performance last start when second behind Ultra Phoenix. The Testa Matta showed good early speed before finishing off well over 1400m. You Hyun-myung will partner the four-year-old and is likely to settle him in the forward half of the field. (7) B.K. EUAN is an eleven start maiden but has shown some promising performances. The three-year-old finished fourth three weeks ago behind Speed Kingdom when sitting in the leading division. He will get the claim of Mo Jun-ho once again and should take improvement from the last run. (8) MAGIC HORSE has been thereabouts at her past few starts including a last start fourth behind B.K John over 1400m. She has previously placed over the Busan mile and appears an each-way chance. (2) ACE JILJU lines up for his second-up effort after finishing midfield behind the promising Fantastic Man last time out. His strike rate is poor but if he were to collect a minor cheque it would not surprise.
Seoul Race 6: Class 4 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million
(5) ROCKUI JEWANG beat a couple of these on his way to 4th place at class and distance on October 16th. He came from off the pace to record what was his best finish to date and he looks nicely in here again to this time come out on top. (4) JEOLYE is a proven winner and has posted the fastest time of any of these over this distance. She has mixed her form and has been beaten by a couple of these in recent outings but has some quality about her and should be heavily involved. One of those to have finished ahead of Jeolye is (3) ECHO FIRST ON. She is yet to win in thirteen starts and is another who mixes her form, but she has tended to go well when drawn inside and can get forward early. (8) DOLGYEOK APEURO and (10) ROAD BLACK are others in at least the placing hunt.

(1) GEUMA NIPPY obliged at the second time of asking on October 23rd with a front-running win over class and distance. That was during the period of reduced prize money racing so he gets no penalty for it and there is no reason why he can’t repeat today. He’ll be close to the pace from the start and is likely to be the prohibitive favourite. (7) SMART MOD is a locally bred galloper who has won his way up to this level. His first crack at it back in June didn’t go especially well but the extended break may have done him some good. He certainly knows how to win at this distance. That layoff may also have worked out for (10) K.B. BOSS who was losing his way somewhat in the summer. He trialed up very nicely at the beginning of this month and can be given another chance today (although a word of warning – he trialed up well before his last preparation too. Aside from the favourite, it isn’t a daunting race so there could be an opportunity for the solitary debut-maker (5) MR. SSAK THREE to go well first up.
The weekend’s racing gets underway at Busan on Friday with 11 races from 11:30 to 18:00. The meeting is open to the public but reservations must be made one day in advance via the “MyCard” app. Here are the previews:
Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
Maidens kick things off with five of the eleven racing for the very first time. Among those with experience, (4) ALPHA AGAIN looks the best. He’s led in all three of his races so far only to be passed on each occasion with a best finish of 3rd. The drop back in trip may be to his benefit and he could make the breakthrough here. It won’t be easy though as there are a few first-timers with potential. (1) COOL GUY was the best in trials, putting in a competent front-running performance and registering a good time. If he gets to the front, he may be hard to beat. (3) YEONGGWANGUI POWER and (11) HAEUNDAE BADA likewise impressed in their heats and should go well first up. Returning to the experienced ones, (9) SIMON LADY has been inconsistent but has proven capable of finding some money in similar company to this.

A small field of nine will face the starter in the second where the Class 6 gallopers will go over the six furlongs. (1) YEONGSEONGTEUKGEUP effectively gets a second chance in this grade after winning a Class 6 event when there were no penalties for winning, as result of covid relief racing organized by the KRA. The Old Fashioned colt clocked a good time for this grade, he lines up with the same weight over the same distance and we predict the result will be the same as well. (6) DAMYANG DOLPUNG lines up for his second start after finishing third on debut back in July. The Purge colt finished off strong on debut and should appreciate the extra furlong. (4) CAPTAIN GIRL is on debut from the Kim Young-kwan stable. The Menifee filly clocked a fair time but there appeared to be more in the tank. (3) SMART YEONGUNG has had a handful of starts and whilst is yet to place, based on previous runs he looks capable of collecting some minor money.
Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
Another horse who can take advantage of the temporary relaxation in the class 6 rules is (7) GREY ANGEL. She came from well off the pace to score on debut a month ago, winning very handily indeed. Carrying the same weight again today and at the same distance, it’s hard to see her being beaten. (3) WONDER RUNNER was a useful 3rd on debut on October 16th having briefly led late on. She should be prominent again and should be at least placing once more. (2) TWO TWO CHALLENGER has improved over three starts so far. The apprentice jockey knows the filly very well and she shouldn’t be too far away here. There are two first-time starters, both of them with eye-catching jockey bookings. Of the pair, (4) GWANGDAESEUNGCHEON showed the most in trials and should be in the placing hunt.

(4) PEACE BAEK looks ready to win coming off successive placings including one just four weeks back. The filly lacked early speed last time out before reeling off a good sectional. Kim Myoung-sin gets a good opportunity to break a run of outs. (11) DAESAN GAPBU looks an each way chance in the event albeit still a maiden after thirteen starts. The filly finished fourth late October behind Gold Magic when hitting the line in fair style. You Hyun-myung will be legged aboard for the first time. (8) GEUMA GOOD POINT lines up for his fifth start with Lee Hyo-sik staying aboard. The Peace Rules gelding finished fourth last time out when running on well. (9) DIVINE QUEEN was somewhat disappointing last time out when well beaten over the 1200m. (3) SUN ALPHA is another one who benefits from being allowed another crack in class 6 despite already having broken his maiden last month. That win had been coming too, following on from a runner-up finish in August and there is no reason why he can’t repeat today. He does like to come from off the pace though so there is always a danger of him being left with a little too much to do. If this happens then (7) ALPHA STAR is perhaps the one to take advantage. He too would normally be up at class 5 by now with two solid runner-up finishes to his name. He should be on pace from the start and can go close. (8) KING OF JOY passed plenty late on last time and should be in the placing frame again here while (4) CHEONMA HASEO and (5) PILSEUNG IJI are others in the hunt.

A field of twelve to line up in the first where all but two runners are on debut. Watching the vision of (12) LONDON ACTIVE suggests the Colonel John filly is ready to perform at her first race start. The two-year-old bounced out of the gates in good style in her trial before running through the line in good fashion. The outside draw is a concern, but she should be able to muster quickly and sit on speed. (4) K N MAGIC is another debutant that trialed up in good style. The Kantharos filly clocked a good time on a rain affected track. She is drawn well and should be able to sit just behind the leading division. (5) RAON GARAM appears to be an each-way chance in a field with plenty of unknown ability. She is by the progressive stallion Musket Man whose progeny have been performing well early on in their careers. (8) CHEROKEE MARINE is one of just two gallopers engaged that has had a previous run. Maidens go around here with four of the twelve racing for the first time. We’re going to stick with experience though and (3) HAPPY SOCKS perhaps has the edge. The Tiz Wonderful filly ran on very nicely for 3rd behind a couple of promising ones on debut over 1000M in August and the additional furlong should suit. It’s a similar story with (8) LUCKY WORLD who ran very similarly for his own 3rd place on debut and can be expected to run on strongly again and go close. (1) MAGICUI HAMSEONG could only manage 6th but nevertheless put in a fast time on a sloppy track on his August debut and is another who may have some promise. The Old Fashioned colt comes off a last start third when sitting on speed and being passed by a couple quicker in the run home. His opposition today is not overly strong, and he looks like an each-way chance who will get every chance sitting on pace. (12) CHEONJI ULLIM has finished close up at his two starts to date. The three-year-old hasn’t raced since February when he finished fourth behind Ice Punch. He trialed up in a few weeks ago and clocked a good time. The draw is a concern, but he needs to be treated as a winning chance. (5) SPECIAL STORY has notched placings at his past two starts. The filly’s time wasn’t overly fast in these performances, but her competition today looks even. (1) SPEED FLYING comes off successive minor placing during the mid-part of the year. He’s at the same class today and although he carries a whopping additional 5kg he remains hard to bet against. There are a couple who could beat him though. (4) PINE TOUCH has come close on a number of occasions over his five starts so far and has shown he has a strong finish. The slight step up in trip today may suit. (11) FULL BOOSTER comes in off a last start runner-up finish and if jockey Ueda Masashi can overcome the wide draw to get him close to the pace, he could be in with a shout. The Winchester filly has settled both rearwards and on speed in her past couple of starts, from barrier nine she may have to settle midfield or worse. She has placed at two of her past three starts including a last start second over this distance. (7) ONE PUTT handed in a better performance last start back in August when finishing second over this distance. The three-year-old hit the line with gusto and is likely to settle towards the tail once again, before reeling off a good sectional. (8) ACE HAMSEONG is another who has finished close up at his past few starts. (7) HAPPY WITCH lines up for her third start after a good start to her career in the mid-part of the year. The Officer filly won on debut in June in good time before finishing second over the six furlongs in July. She looks to be one of a few runners who can work forward and sit in the first few in running. (11) DOCTOR GREY has shown that he is capable of reeling off a good sectional. He finished off strongly last time out running into third behind VIP King last time out in August. He looks one to watch as he steps out over a long journey down the track. (10) PARTY LION has not raced since January but trialed up in good style in August. The filly has finished in the top three on three occasions from eight attempts but is yet to break maiden status. The horse looks best suited if Jo In-kwon can get her to work forward early. (4) QUEEN OF ADELE looks next best and one worth including in your novelty bets.

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
The Korean-bred maidens line up in the first over the short course where the main chances appear to have drawn wide. (10) CHEONGDAM WICKED was good on debut when finishing third behind White Queen over this distance. Connections then elected to place the filly in an open class race for the two-year-olds where she found the task far too hard. She looks a very good chance to notch her first win in this easier company today. (12) TOUGH MAN lines up for his first run after trialing up in good style. The Take Charge Indy colt trialed up in good style when clocking 62.2 seconds for the 1000m on a dry surface. (5) CHEONSANGUI YEOIN was disappointing last time out when well beaten but it was the filly’s first attempt over 1200m. (4) BLACK CAR weakened a little on debut in August but previously posted a fast time in a trial. He could well have come on for having some racing experience and should improve today. (9) GREEN CHOEGANG and (10) FIGHTING GIRL have faced each other twice already with little between them on either occasion. The third on the card is a tough race for punters to digest with no standout selections. (7) SINUI ADEUL goes on top based on his effort last start when running home fairly over the 1000m. He was beaten a long way when finishing fourth on that day but this looks an easier assignment. (8) CHEONGSAN GANGHO looks an each-way play after settling well back last time out and hitting the line fairly. Rider Victoire will need to bustle his mount out of the gates to sit closer to the speed if he wants the two-year-old to be a winning chance. (3) JEONGMUN POKJU lines up for his second start after a midfield performance when debuting over this distance. His debut was back in August and it is fair to say you can expect some improvement at his second start. (1) DANANEUN SUCCESS did place at his last start when second over 1300m. The query is the time away from the track as his last start was back in October of last year. He showed us nothing in his recent barrier trial but we will include him on the effort of his last start albeit quite some time ago.
A really good looking race for the level with very few of the twelve being easy tosses. (1) CHOTOMA is perhaps the one to beat. A good winner on debut, he ran 3rd on his first try at this level on August 22nd, recording the fastest time among these at this distance by some margin. From the inside he can sit handy and could be too strong. (11) P.K. DOLPUNG got his maiden win at this class over 1300M on August 29th with a front-running performance. He’s drawn a bit wider today but he still has claims. (7) NEVER WALK ALONE ran well for 4th on his first try at this class and is already a winner at the distance while (9) ROYAL GHOST remains a maiden but already has two 3rd place finishes at this class and won’t be overawed here. (5) RAON DIA found herself overmatched against the track’s best juveniles last start but showed plenty of speed on debut and can be a factor here. The Dialed In filly has never finished worse than fourth including a last start second when clocking a quick time on a good track. Expect rider David Breux to settle in the first three and finish the race off strong. (11) GRACE QUEEN is another that has performed good enough to suggest she can run into the money. She has finished in the top four at all three starts. The downside is her wide draw but with the extra half furlong today she will have more time to wind up. (9) HEUNG DREAM looks to be the likely pacemaker and this looks his easiest assignment to date. The Testa Matta two-year-old is expected to cross early and may take some running down. (3) CHEONDUNG GISE comes off a last start placing in July over 1200m. The chestnut finished off strong on that occasion and another forward performance would not surprise.
No fewer than four of these are up in class having recorded their maiden wins on their respective latest starts. (10) UNPARALLELED was always prominent but took things up late and ran on pleasingly on debut over 1200M on August 29th. The gate is only one wider than last time and he has every chance of maintaining his 100% record. (5) SANTTEUTHANSEUCHIM excelled when finally given a bit of distance to play with and over the same trip today can be a danger again while (6) AMAZING WHIZ also won impressively at this trip las start and if Kim Jeong-jun can get him on or close to the speed again, he will be in the frame. He proved on that occasion that he can carry weight when he lumped 57kg to victory. He will have to carry 57.5kg in this event but based on the last start effort that should not be an issue. (6) DREAM PO RE is another progressive type who has won two from three with a minor placing as well. The Shackleford colt has sat on speed at all three starts to date and from barrier six he is likely to find the rail before Raon Fashion. (3) WONDERFUL STORM has won two from three and is proven over this distance. The Menifee colt was a last start winner on a sloppy rated track but also clocked a good time when debuting over 1000m on a dry track. With a good draw he needs to be treated as an each-way prospect. The Menifee colt should be able to sit behind the leading division as per previous runs and let down with a solid burst in the straight. He looks for his third win at start number nine. (7) HAEK SOCKS is building a nice record winning two of his three starts to date. This is a step up in grade but he’s a bombproof horse who does everything right. He will give you a good run for your money if you like him. (2) JEONGMUN SUMMIT finished second last start in this grade over the same distance. There is a slight query with the extra 2kg he carries today putting him at the top of the weight scale with 57kg. He has drawn well and should be able to kick up early on and hold a prominent position. (3) YEONGHWA FLYING has won three from five but struggled at his most recent effort back in August when capitulating in the run home. She will appreciate the 4kg claim of Lim Da Bin.
Race 10: Class 5 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
Trainer Song Moon-gil and jockey Kim Yong-geun team up once more and they really should be winning here. (6) BLUE K was a good maiden win over 1300M two starts back before running a strong 2nd over this class and distance behind Jangsan Bada. She’s not been seen since July but the Testa Matta filly looks a cut above her rivals here. (7) GEUMSEONG ACE steps up in class and slightly in distance following a good maiden win at start number four over 1300M. She’ll need to improve significantly if she is not beat the favourite but has claims over all the rest. (8) DONGJJOK GLORY and (10) FEDERAL KING both come in off useful 2nd place finishes at this distance and can be aiming to hit the board once more. (1) MANSE has been knocking on the door of the places at this level and could sneak some money too.

Race 11: Class 2 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million
The eleventh on the card is a brilliant race for Korean racing fans to watch as there are plenty of up and coming types. The ever-impressive (12) LEGEND STORM is first up over 1400m after a dominant victory back in June. He is a versatile type and there is a lot to like about the Officer colt who is likely to work forward early from the outside gate. The three-year-old has won four from six and with just 52kg on his back he a looks a good bet in a market where there should be some value on offer. (10) MIGHTY GO is another building a good record winning four of his five race starts. The US import is another that likes to race on speed and Ham Wan-sik will get the plum steer with no Alan Munro available. He won over this distance last time out back in late August and must be considered a winning chance. (7) MUNHAK ARIARI should be considered in your selections on the basis of his last win albeit back in February. He is a class and distance winner which is in his favour compared to the aforementioned horses who line up in this grade for the first time. (6) WANG BEOTKKOT is another impressive last start winner in this grade who clocked a very good time. The Discreet Cat gelding will have to lump 58kg as a result and there is a slight query with the 1400m.

(2) HAENGBOK WANGJA registered his maiden win at the eighth time of asking on his latest start in August and it had been coming. The Daredevil colt had previously finished runner-up to a couple of very useful types and he looked very good in victory. He steps up to 1800M today but has run well at 1700M before and he is the one to beat. (9) SURISURIMA came from off the pace for a good win 1300M on her latest start. She was previously beaten by Haengbok Wangja over 1700M but the only filly in the race has solid placing chances here. (11) MOONHAK EMPIRE beat a couple of these last start over 1700M and looks nicely in again today. (3) FLASH JET and (1) MALIBU GINGER are others who can at least aim for the placings.
Punters returned to the racecourses in limited numbers last weekend and this week, with prize money restored to normal levels, Busan begins the weekend’s proceedings on Friday with an 11-race card from 11:30 to 18:00. The races will be on overseas simulcast in the usual places:
It’s Friday. It’s Busan.
Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
A maiden to kick things off with two colts taking on nine fillies. Seven have raced before with (3) HAPPY SECRET having posted the fastest time among them at this distance. That was back in January but while she has neither raced nor trialed since August, the featherweight she carries on her back today should put her right into contention. (10) WORLD REMEMBER ran 6th of 14 over 1200M three weeks ago but led for much of the race. The drop back in trip plus the jockey booking means we can have some confidence of improvement here. (9) WONDERFUL SMARTY too has tired late on in her past two and should appreciate the shorter distance. Of the four first-timers, (7) YEONGGWANGUI ROAD looked sharp if a little green when positing a decent time in his trial while (1) MYEONGSEONG MAGIC also looks set to go well first-up.
Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
The second event on the card is an all-aged maiden over the short course. (9) MAGICAL SONG will line up for her debut run after an encouraging trial. The daughter of Purge showed early natural speed and coasted through the line in good style. The time for her trial was good and to the eye she looked as if she had more to give. (1) ICE DANCE is another debutant who trialed up in good style. The Thunder Moccasin filly jumped away only fairly in her trial before quickening and running through the line in good style. When comparing her trial time to her opposition here, she looks to be one of the main chances engaged. (6) SINBARAM GIL will line up for her third start after some reasonable performances back in the mid-part of the year. She hasn’t had the early speed to match the leaders in her races to date, expect her to finish off strong. (4) BAEDARI SUNSHINE is looking to break maiden status at start number six. He placed in similar company back in May but the two runs since then have only been fair.

(6) GOOD SOCKS ran 3rd on debut in a fast time over 1000M back in July. She’s not been seen since and today’s conditions will be very different. However, the Kim Young-kwan/Djordje Perovic combination is a difficult one to overlook and she is the pick here. (11) GALAXY ROAD debuted in the same race running 6th. The step up in trip may suit and the only colt in the race can improve here. (1) NEW LUX has shown improvement across three outings so far. She came from well off the pace to run 4th last start recording the best time at this distance of any of these and look for her to run on strong late once more. (2) LUCKY MAGIC backs up quickly having put in an indifferent run two weeks ago but can improve here. (10) MAGIC STEALTH too has been knocking on the door of the places for a while and is another who should finish strongly.

The fourth event is a competitive maiden event where a case can be made for many runners. (5) PERDIDO FASHION has had four trials before lining up in his debut race. He has been prepared to debut twice this year but has been denied his chance due to the Covid hiatuses. His most recent trial was very good when clocking a fast time, coasting through the line with minimal urging. Two-year-old (3) BANJIUI GIJEOK finished off in good style at her debut run over the 1000m. It looks as if she will appreciate the step up to the six furlongs and should be considered a winning chance. (11) CATCH THE VICTORY debuted back in August in a two-year-old event where the Hansen colt finished third. He looks another that should appreciate the extra furlong today. Djordje Perovic will have to produce a gem of a ride to overcome barrier twelve. (2) BABY LINE has had the two starts for two minor placings. The Officer colt is likely to sit in the first couple or runners early in the race, he should have every chance as they turn for home.

Tricky race this with plenty looking ready to step up. There is just the solitary debut-maker here but it does catch the eye. (4) ENDLESS RUNNING ran 2nd in a trial in a good time just a couple of weeks ago and with Perovic aboard will warrant consideration. (1) WONDERFUL SECRET ran 4th on debut just two weeks ago leading in the early part of the race before running on adequately enough. He should have come on for the run and can go closer today, most likely leading again. (8) TRIPLE STORM has given himself too much to do on each of three appearances to date but has run on strongly each time. He has an additional half furlong to play with today and can get closer. (10) MOVIE BROTHER has a 2nd and a 3rd to his name already and should be at least aiming for another place here. (9) TOHAM STRONG is the most experienced in the race and while that’s not really a good thing in a maiden, should have enough about him to get close.
Race 6: Class 6 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
A field of twelve maiden gallopers will line up over 1400m in the sixth event on the card. (6) CHEONGDAM DRIVE lines up for his first run since August when finishing third over the same distance. The Rock Hard ten colt looks as if he will be one of the pacemakers in the race, showing plenty of early speed last time out. Expect the three-year-old to cross in the early stages and take some running down. (2) INDIAN PARTY improved at his most recent effort back in August when settling in the leading division and eventually running third. From barrier two rider Jo In-Kwon may should be able to kick up and hold a prominent position. (4) STAR EYE lines up for his second start after rattling home on debut in a race over the six furlongs. The Violence colt will naturally appreciate the step up to the 1400m. Lee Hyo-sik needs to ensure the deficit at the top of the straight is not too great to reel in. (11) ADELE FIRST is yet to place after four career starts but looks capable of running into some minor money. The Bob And John filly will line up over the 1400m for the first time today.

Another race with plenty of live chances. (2) TOP LUCKY was a front-running 2nd at class and distance three weeks ago and is nicely drawn to get on speed again. She has been a touch inconsistent over five starts so far but should be close. A wide draw doesn’t harm the prospects of (12) MAGIC PARTNER. The Tapizar gelding has the best time of any of these at this distance and should run on strong late on. (1) TOP MATE is up in class following back to back runner-up finishes from his first two runs. He takes a considerable step up in trip too but looks to have scope for more development and should be a factor. Also up in class is (10) DOCTOR KHAN. He was indifferent on debut at this trip in July but looks ready for another crack following a 3rd and then a maiden win back at 1200M. (9) BEAUTIFUL GALLOP is another serious contender having run on well for 2nd place at 1300M last start and is nicely in the weights today.

The four-year-old is yet to finish worse than third from four starts and should handle the step-up to the mile with ease. (2) JEONSEOLUI FIGHT handed in a good performance last time out to finish runner-up to Sky Win over the mile. The galloper’s consistency sees him line up in Class5 company without a maiden win yet. He gets a great chance to sit just off speed and run over the top of his rivals in the final stages. (6) MISS ADELE is another yet to win but has shown glimpses of promise in her eleven start career to date. She lined up in the inaugural running of the Luna Stakes last start for the fillies, where she was severely outclassed. With fresh legs she is capable of running into the money. (4) PORRIMA has broken the heart of many punters in her six start career to date. The Old Fashioned filly has placed on four occasions and with just 51kg on her back she must be considered.

Today sees a significantly stiffer assignment but the manner of his last start win at this distance suggests he needs to be taken seriously. Four of these raced each other at class and distance back on August 28th. (4) GOOD THUNDER came out the best of them that day with a good 2nd place. He has won over this distance and has never finished worse than 5th in seven outings. While he carries an additional 2kg today, he still has solid claims. (8) ACE BOOM ran 4th in that race and can aim to match or better that today. (11) VEGA THUNDER has just the one win from nine starts but has finished runner-up on no fewer than six occasions. The win might be beyond him again but don’t rule him out of going close once more. A field of twelve will face the starter in the tenth where there appears to be a handful of chances. The win of (3) AKER’S DREAM back in August was very good. The Discreet Cat colt clocked a good time when taking up the lead and never being caught. He stays in the same grade but will carry an additional 4kg. He goes over the same distance once again and looks a great chance of back to back wins. (6) CHEAT KEY comes off a last start second in this grade behind Black Eagle Wind back in August. The import normally races in the first four or so runners and he should get the chance to do so once again with limited pace engaged. A maiden win does not look too far away. (10) HANBIT YEONGGWANG has finished second at her past three starts. The consistent type has shown a liking for the sprint distances. She gets in well in the weight scale with just the 54kg on her back. (9) ROCKY SKY will line up for his first run since January. The Sky Mesa gelding trialed up in September clocking a good time. Keep the three-year-old safe in your novelty bets.
Race 11: Class 3 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million
(2) RETURN OF SUBSIDY ran a useful 5th on his first try at this distance in August. He doesn’t win out of turn but the booking of a promising apprentice jockey takes 4kg off his back this time around and he has claims here to go very close. The experienced pair of (6) GANGHAN JILJU and (4) GYEONGJUUI DUREBAK came home 3rd and 4th when they raced each other at class and distance at the end of August. Both are very capable and despite the weights they carry, they should both be competing here. (1) GWANGHWAMUN SIDAE was a touch disappointing on his latest appearance back in August but he has won at this distance in the past and is worth another chance here. (9) ORYONG has plenty of quality and while he hasn’t been at his best in his recent appearances, is a very capable type and can’t be discounted. (8) CURLIN TIME and (12) MALIBU BYEOL are among others in the frame.

The Colonel John filly can position in the second half of the field before reeling of a quick sectional. (2) KKANGDORI looks as if she is one of the debutants ready to fire early in her career. The grey won her trial in good style clocking a reasonable time for the juveniles. (4) DAESAN TEUKGEUP is another trial winner who looks capable of performing at his debut run. He overcame a wide gate and covered the ground nicely to win his heat when clocking 62.7 seconds on a muddy track. He looks set to be a two-turn horse but 1400M should give him enough opportunity to stretch out and he can win again today. This is a really good race for the level though. (3) TOP SEED got his maiden win at this distance in June, making all, but was touch slow away on his first crack at this level last month, ending up in 3rd. With a better start he can be right back in the mix today. (1) CHEONJI YEOGEOL and (6) UNOECHANCHEON are both up in class following maiden wins last month at 1300M and 1200M respectively. Both ran through the line strong and should adapt to the increased trip with few difficulties. (5) CHEOGANG MAGIC comes in following a class and distance 3rd a month ago and can aim to follow up here while (7) CHOEGANG PARTY drops back in trip following a useful 3rd place around 1700M last start and is one of a number of others who can also come into consideration.
A field of eleven will line up over the seven furlongs in the fifth. (2) HAENGBOK WANGJA looks extremely hard to beat notching two runner-up performances in a row since resuming. The Daredevil colt comes off a last start second behind Mighty New which reads extremely well for this event. (4) SOUL MERIT will be sure to attract attention in betting markets. The American Pharoah colt trialed up in good fashion and was a Class Four winner before the racing hiatus. The three-year-old will have to carry 57.5kg, a substantial increase on the 52.5kg he carried to victory last start. (5) GOOD SENSE produced a solid performance when resuming last start. The Street Sense four-year-old is up in class on the strength of a second last start and as a result will carry just the 52kg. She has the inside gate today and could well be peaking with a real winning chance. (8) RAON TAP MAN has only finished outside the top three once in seven starts and comes in having scored at class 4 over this distance in June and then run 2nd on his first try at this class a month ago. She carries significantly less weight this time and has a real chance. (9) NEUL PUREUN CAT was well back behind Running Box last start but that was his first-up run and he has previously proven himself more than competitive at class and distance. She resumed in good style when finishing second behind Best Lucky over the 1700m. (9) JANGSAN BADA is another progressive type who has notched two wins and a minor from three career starts. (1) GEUMA WHOLESOME has not only recorded the fastest time of those who have raced at the level before but also beat a number of these on his was to 3rd place behind Brigadier General on July 26th. He carries even more weight today but has plenty of quality and should go close. No fewer than three last-start winners are up in class here. (5) ECHO BILL won well at this distance on July 6th in a useful time. He was beaten by (6) SHU LEUB first-up in June, also at today’s distance, but can overturn that form today. (8) MOONHAK EMPIRE was a good winner over 1400M on July 19th and steps up to two-turns for the first time. His running style to date would suggest that won’t be a problem and he should be competitive here. (2) SHARK JJANG and (4) MUDO are others in the hunt.
Race 9: Class Open (1400M) Ttukseom Cup (KOR G2) Allowance / KRW 400 Million
The time-honoured Ttukseom Cup is the ninth event on the card where the fillies and mares will line up over the 1400m at Korean Group Two level. A field of fourteen will face the starter where last year’s winner Silver Wolf will rematch Dia Road, who turned the tables on the eight-year-old back in January winning the Donga Ilbo Cup. Here’s a look at each of the runners:
DAEBAK HAENGJIN – Good performance last start to finish third behind Wang Beotkkot when second-up. Somewhat of a non-winner notching just one victory from fifteen starts. Looks to be up against it at set weights.
SKY BAY – Light raced five-year-old who needs to be considered an each way chance after a very good win at Class 1 level when first up over the 1400m. Never been able to match Silver Wolf previously but has resumed in great order.
SILVER WOLF – Last year’s champion mare clean sweeping the Queen’s Tour. Found the Grand Prix not suitable and then finished second to Dia Road in the Donga Ilbo before the enforced hiatus. Will be interesting to see her run after a lengthy break.
RAON FIRST – Seems the logical choice to line up in after struggling to run a strong 1600m out in the Luna Stakes and subsequentially bypassing the Oaks. A winner of four from six she is an on-pace runner that must be respected.
SEOURI BYEOL – Has performed admirably at the highest level behind the likes of Dia Road and Silver Wolf. Whilst she is unlikely to match their efforts, she is normally a live place chance. Query lies with the 1400m.
ICE MARINE – Winner of eight from twenty-six including a last start victory when defeating last year’s Oaks winner Deep Mind. The seven furlongs not her ideal distance as she normally takes time to find her feet before hitting the line strong.
HWA GI – Hard to suggest on her two performances since resuming in June.
SEONNYANG CHEOLLI – Class 3 winner last start over 1200m. Yet to be stretched beyond the six furlongs and she looks outclassed against this field.
DIA ROAD – A winner of seven from eight starts including the Donga Ilbo back in January when beating Silver Wolf. She is all class and looks the one to beat. Resumed with a win when made to work for it over 1800m. The one to beat.
DAMYANG HWANHO – A long time between drinks and looks safely held.
CHEONGSU YEOGEOL – Lacks to class to match it with a field of this caliber. Unlikely.
LEAD MONEY – Resumed in good fashion to finish third behind Dia Road over the 1800m. Always thereabouts in Class 1 level. Place chance at best.
CHOCO CANDY – Last start Class 2 winner when carrying only 53.5kg. Another filly who is capable of finishing in the minor money.
UJU DAEWANG – Career best performances to date include a win in Class 3 company. Looks outclassed.
VERDICT: (9) DIA ROAD showed us in January that she has more than enough ability to stamp herself as the best filly or mare in Korea. Now we get to see this rematch between her and (3) SILVER WOLF for the first time since the Donga Ilbo. There is so much intrigue watching these two superstars face each other at equal weights. In January’s Donga Ilbo Silver Wolf had to carry 5kg more than Dia Road only going down three lengths. At set weights with fresh legs she is more than capable of regaining the upper hand. (2) SKY BAY showed us that she has resumed in brilliant style when winning over this distance last time out. She has placed behind the likes of Silver Wolf previously and we know she can carry weight. (4) RAON FIRST knows one way only and that is to jump and run. The Musket Man filly looks perfectly suited over the 1400m with a good draw.

Race 10: Class Open (1200M) SROA Trophy (KOR G3) Weight for Age / KRW 400 Million
1. WONDER BOLT – The 10-year-old never disgraces himself and will likely finish in midfield again but he simply doesn’t have the kind of speed anymore to be a serious contender in races such as this.
2. SPRING BACK – Good class 1 sprinter but perhaps not quite of the elite level at equal weights. Finished 7th in the SBS and while he could better that, he has a little too much to make up.
3. ULTRA PUNCH – Establishing himself as a competent class 1 campaigner although he is yet to win at the top level. Ran 2nd to Complete Sweep last start. Great draw so expect him to challenge for the early lead but others should end up too quick.
4. COMPLETE SWEEP – Good all the way win at this distance in July before running 3rd in a fast race on a very wet track earlier this month sandwiched between Jjang Kong and Mask in 3rd place. He’ll be aiming to get on speed from the start but isn’t among the favourites.
5. M J POWER – A very good 4th behind Do Kki Blade in the Busan Ilbo, he skipped the SBS and instead ran 2nd to Sky Bay over 1400M. Likes to come from just off the pace with a strong finish, he is unlikely to win but shouldn’t be far away.
6. EOMA EOMA – The up and comer put in a huge run to finish a desperately close 3rd in the SBS, his first serious race after three easy wins. He had to come from gate 10 that day but has fared much better with the draw this time. Moon Se-young being available means Song Jae-chul misses out despite doing everything right last time. Expect a fast start and this time he can win.
7. JJANG KONG – Put in a massive effort to run 2nd at this distance on a very wet track, beating Complete Sweep and Mask, on August 1st. That earns him his shot here but while he will grind away, aiming to close from a midfield position, surely this is too hard
8. CHEUNGDAM GENIE – Well back behind Morfhis in June, he takes his chance here having pulled off a good win over the distance on July 12th. Still potential to improve but may not have the speed to compete for the money here.
9. MASK – Returned from a lengthy absence to run 4th behind Jjang Kong and Complete Sweep on August 1st. That was a good first-up run and he has consistently posted solid times at this distance. In this company though, a few others may just be a bit quicker.
10. GLOBAL CAPTAIN – Loads of talent but he is unreliable in terms of manners. From an unpromising gate, he managed to run 6th in the SBS, coming from well back late on. At his best he is capable of winning but there are too many questions over him.
11. MEDICI GLORY – Made his way rapidly up the levels and ran a very solid 5th in the SBS. Runs best on the early speed but both draw and quality of opposition will make it difficult for him to get there. Matching that SBS performance would be a good result.
12. DO KKI BLADE – Brilliant winner of the Busan Ilbo and he can desperately close in the SBS before Morfhis snatched it away. A front-runner, his draw is worse today then in both the Busan Ilbo and SBS and he has a lot of speed inside him. Nevertheless, his quality should see him close.
13. EAST JET – A winner of five from his first six he was then a revelation in the SBS when he ran a close at hand 4th. One of just two three-year-olds in the race, along with Eoma Eoma, he gets weight allowance, but the draw isn’t kind. Will be hard to better that 4th but not impossible.
14. MORFHIS – That rarest of things in Korea; a closer who wins Group level Sprints. As in the SBS, the wide draw is arguably in his favour as he can keep out of both trouble and kickback and run his own race until the business end. If he is to repeat though he will need a lot to go right for him. A real chance once more.
15. SEONGPA – Struggled in the Busan Ilbo and skipped the SBS in order to run in the Jjang Kong race in which he finished 8th. He has posted a fast time when winning at this distance but it’s hard to make a case for him on most recent form.
VERDICT: (14) MORFHIS will aim to repeat his SBS Sports Sprint win with his customary late charge and it’s not impossible he could be successful. However, the up and comer (6) EOMA EOMA impressed that day and has drawn a much better gate. It may be that by the time Morfhis arrives on the scene, it’s too late. This time the draw does no favours to (12) DO KKI BLADE but he has plenty of quality and should be present at the business end of the race. Likewise (13) EAST JET will have to come from wide, but the wily Munro isn’t one to throw the kitchen sink early and he’ll surely be around to challenge late on. (9) MASK and (10) GLOBAL CAPTAIN are among others in the hunt for the minors in what should be a tremendous race.
Race 11: Class 2 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million
There looks an abundance of speed engaged in the eleventh where a field of eleven will line up over the 1400m. (4) DAEGUN CHEONHA has been a model of consistency in his thirteen start career. The Verrazano colt has won just the two races but has never finished worse than fifth including eight minor placings. From barrier four he should get every chance to figure, expect him to be hitting peak fitness at his third start back from the racing hiatus. (7) FLYING FORD put his brilliant turn of foot on display last start when gobbling up a good bunch of gallopers. The Shackleford four-year-old goes up a considerable 4.5kg which will make his task tougher, but his last win was very good. (3) KILIUI JEWANG is second-up after a midfield performance behind Munhak Tiger in this company last start. Expect improvement from the five-year-old second-up. (2) INCHEON CHIEF will drop back to the 1400m after finishing midfield at his first start back. He will take improvement out of that first up run, expect him to be on speed from gate two over the 1400m.
Race 12: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
(3) STRETTO came back into form with a strong 2nd place over class and distance on August 1st. He gets in again under a very light weight and going one better isn’t impossible. (10) LUMINESCE and (11) HIGH BEAT came home 1st and 2nd at class and distance with not much between them on July 18th. Winner Luminesce was giving away 3kg that day but it’s up to 5kg today and that, coupled with the former being drawn much wider this time, may be enough to allow the consistent High Beat to overturn the form. (5) JEONGSANG ETTEUM almost made all but ultimately finished 2nd over 1400M on July 11th. From a good draw, he’ll be on pace again and has every chance. (1) PSYCHIC BOSS and (6) GLOBAL CHEONHA came home 3rd and 4th when they raced each other on July 25th at class and distance and both can aim to go close again.

Cheongdam Dokki will bid to complete a clean sweep of the Stayers’ Series when he lines up in the G2 Busan Mayor’s Cup on the south coast on Sunday afternoon. There is a 5-race card at Busan along with a scheduled 12 race program at Seoul. See below for race-by-race previews for both tracks, along with a horse-by-horse guide to the big race:

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million
Quite a tasty looking juvenile maiden to kick off the Sunday card in the capital with five having raced before, none having finished worse than 5th and six making their racecourse debut. Of those we have seen before, three went in the same event at this distance on July 12th and it was (10) JAY HAWK who came out the best of them, coming home 3rd. Alan Munro takes the mount today and while it looks like the colt may ultimately want further, he should be in the hunt again. It’s similar with (9) GO GO STAR, who was also 3rd on debut after coming from off the pace and who looks nicely in again. The fastest time on debut though was set by (8) BEST TIME although it should be noted that was on a very wet and fast running track. As for the first-timers, (2) SEO E BEONJJEOK made all to win his heat at the end of July while (6) K FRENZY was similarly a trial winner. Both should go well first-up today.

The second event is an all-aged maiden where it is hard to make a case for many. (5) KILATAS is the on top selection after finishing midfield when first up behind Chodong Rocket. The Thunder Moccasin colt was one-paced through the line but it was a stronger affair that this event. The time he clocked last start should see him be competitive. (1) IRYEO HAYEO looks a chance of figuring after resuming with some handy performances. The mare finished fifth behind Top Seed when resuming and backed it up with a fifth behind The Beast. On both occasions she made up ground in the straight. (4) MONEY LINE is second up and punters should look for some improvement. He felt the pinch up the straight when first-up but given the weakness of this race, he can run into some minor money. (10) SPEED MOUNTAIN looks next best coming off a fair performance when trying to lead throughout last time out and settling for fourth.
Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
Not the strongest of maidens here so a good opportunity for something to make the breakthrough. The only one to have troubled the placings so far Is (11) MUSSANG HWANGHU, who came home 3rd over 1200M second-up in July 18th. She came from the back and ran on strong so the step up in trip may be to her benefit and she has claims to go even better today. (10) TYCHE FIRE similarly ran on pleasingly for a much improved 5th place on his second outing back in June. Moon Se Young takes over aboard and he should be in the hunt. Both (1) K N WONDERFUL and (4) DIVINE POWER have run creditably at this distance already and look ready for improvement today. There are a couple of wildcards too. (7) SOJUNGHAN GOLDEN hasn’t shown much in the way of speed but also looks as though he has been crying out for a bit of distance. He gets that here and can go better. (8) JANGSAN ENGINE is the solitary debut-maker. She’s been through trial after trial over the course of a year and finally gets her racing chance after a solid showing in a heat last month. In a race completely devoid of early speed, she may be taken to the front early.

The fourth event will have a field of eleven line up over the seven furlongs. (10) SARAMIRANEUNBYEOL is the on top selection after a good win at his second start last time out. The Rock Hard Ten colt managed to lead the entire way clocking a time that should see him prove competitive once again. (6) DREAM MONEY has placed at his last two starts and is capable of figuring. Drawn in barrier six expect David Breux to allow the four-year-old to find his feet before reeling off a strong last sectional. (7) KINGLY showed improvement last start coming out of the same race as Dream Money. The Federalist gelding is yet to break maiden status but has shown some reasonable performances in his eighteen starts to date. (2) MANSE is second up after finishing fourth upon resuming. The three-year-old is lightly raced and we may see some improvement from him today.
Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
After an extremely eye-catching win on debut in June, (1) HAEK SOCKS was in no way disgraced when 3rd on his first try at this class and distance on July 25th. He led for much of that race, weakening in the closing stages and should have come on for the experience with the potential to return to winning ways here. Speaking of eye-catching, (10) NEVER WALK ALONE’s maiden victory had been coming and he was impressive when achieving it at the fifth time of asking on July 18th. The Warrior’s Reward colt is up in class today but looks to have more scope to improve. Those two look set to dispute matters but there are others with ability here. (3) CHOEGO BISANG ran the fastest time of any of these at this distance, albeit on a wet track last start and can go close again while (5) BLUE BAND is also capable at this level.

Busan Race 1: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
Maiden filles (and two mares) go around for a big prize in Busan’s opener. After running 3rd on debut (11) WOLRD CHEONSA led from gate to wire for an easy win in a fast time on her return on July 17th. She is up in class and distance here and while the draw has done her no favours, she can have enough about her to win again. (6) GRAND YEOWANG got her maiden win at this distance in July recording the fastest time of any of these over the 1200M. She stepped up to 1400M last start and beat a couple of her rivals here on her way to a creditable 4th place. Back in trip today, she looks a real chance. (9) CHEONGMA HERO is another up in class having made all for her maiden on July 10th. It was at this distance and while she will need to improve, she should go close. The wildcard is (2) BLUE EMBER, who ran out a winner over 1400M at class 6 a month ago.

This Sunday sees the Busan Mayor’s Cup, the final leg of the Stayers’ Series where Cheongdam Dokki will once again seek to see off the likes of Tiz Plan and Shamrocker to take a clean sweep off all three legs having already won the Herald Business and YTN Cups. Before that though there is a big 15-race card at Busan on Friday running from 11:30 to 18:00. With Coivd-19 confirmed cases having risen to between 40-50 per day this week, there is still no sign as to if and when racegoers will be allowed to return to the tracks. Here are the previews:
Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million
Two-year-old gallopers kick of proceedings on Friday with six of the eleven engaged previously raced. (3) GALLANT WARRIOR is the on top selection in a race with many chances. The Old Fashioned colt has performed well at his two starts to date, coming off a last start fourth behind a handy type named Doctor Fashion. (7) CLEAN HIT trialed up nicely in his heat, when only having to be asked for in the last half furlong. He clocked a good time considering there was minimal urging from Lyu Gwang-hee. Busan’s leading rider You Hyun-myung will ride the colt on debut. (4) LUCAS SUN lines up for his second start after finishing midfield on debut behind World Cheonsa. The Purge colt was beaten a big margin, but his time was good and the winner looks an above average type. (5) THE FIRST FACTOR is another that finished behind a special one last start, named Winner’s Man. The filly settled better than midfield before running through the line one-paced. If she can find some improvement on top of her last effort, she can run into the money.

The second is an all-aged maiden for the Korean-bred gallopers where a field of ten will start over six furlongs. With very little speed engaged in the event it looks a good opportunity for (4) RAPTOR MAN to break through under new apprentice Mo Junho. The Rock Hard Ten gelding brought up his first placing last time out, when second behind Pai Blade. He looks one that appreciated the enforced break, he should be able to jump and run from gate four and prove hard to beat. (5) POWERFUL LEGEND looks capable of running into the money after finishing third last time out over this distance. The three-year-old gives the indication he is backmarker so don’t expect him to be settling in the first couple. (6) RAPIDO QUEEN will debut in the race. The Sadamu Patek filly clocked a fair time in her trial, many of these have shown limited ability suggesting she can figure at her first start. (10) HUIMANG SOYEO looks next best as she lines up for her first-up run. She trialed up well and has previously placed in similar company.
Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
Another all-aged maiden for the Korean-bred gallopers here with a field of eleven engaged. In a race lacking depth, (9) DOCTOR KHAN goes on top after finishing third last start over this distance behind Nice One. The Menifee gelding was beaten ten lengths on that occasion but this is a much easier assignment. There should be some natural improvement with this start being his third career run. (6) SPRING FIRE is another that was beaten by a big margin when placing in an age-restricted race last time out. The Lion Santa filly finished third but clocked a time that will see her competitive against a field of this caliber. (2) MYEONGGA DAERO looks capable of running into a place with a good draw. The four-year-old has had eighteen starts, yielding just one place. He comes off a last start fourth when clocking a fair time behind Kkumeul Neomeo. (4) KING BROTHER has finished midfield at his three starts to date. He resumes in this event coming off a fair trial.

The Cowboy Cal filly will carry just the 51.5kg coming off a midfield performance behind World Cheonsa. This race looks an easier assignment, where she will get the services of You Hyun-myung. (4) ECHO GOOD was slightly disappointing last time out when well thought of in a similar event. The Tiz Wonderful filly could only manage fifth, when one-paced in the run to the line never looking a winning chance. (5) ROYALIST lines up for his third start, coming off a fifth last time out over this distance. The Chapel Royal three-year-old was beaten a big margin but this looks an easier assignment. He did place behind Smart Value on debut. Flashy chestnut (9) TAPIT WONDERFUL looks an each-way play based on his two starts to date. The fifth will see the Korean-bred fillies line up over 1300m. (8) DASEUNG E produced a good performance last time out when finishing second behind Wind Park in similar company. The filly sat on speed and went down less than a length, over the same distance as this event. If she can hand in a similar effort, she should go close with minimal early speed engaged in the event. (7) QUEEN VRONSKY has notched two placings from as many starts including a last start second behind Top Lucky. The filly has the ability to close over a sprint distance, the additional half furlong should be in her favour. (3) SATURDAY QUEEN went down a head last time out when second behind Blue Ember. The Any Given Saturday four-year-old maps to sit just behind the speed and be given every chance as heads turn for home. (5) CAPSTONE comes out of the same races where she finished fourth. She was somewhat one-paced through the line but is capable of figuring.
Race 6: Class 6 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
The next best thing from a dead certainty will line up in the sixth where a compact field of eight will go over the 1400m. (3) PORRIMA lines up in a race which she should win by panels. The Old Fashioned filly is the only runner to bring any reasonable form into the race. She comes off a last start third behind Adele Classic where she was comprehensively beaten. This race looks much easier, expect her to work to the front and not be headed. (2) TRUE WARRIOR is fourth up and should be rock hard fit. He (more…)

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million
Plenty of interest lies in the first event with eleven two-year-old gallopers, nine of them unraced taking to the track. (4) GRAY CAT trialed up very nicely early July underneath Song Jae-chul. The Cowboy Cal colt won his trial by six lengths when clocking a solid time for the 1000m. (2) LUCKY JAESAN was another one who trialed up well. The Hansen filly clocked 62.1 seconds for her heat when winning by six lengths as well. She showed early speed in her trial so expect much the same from a good gate. (11) GREEN POKJU is one of two runners that has had a run coming into the race. The Old Fashioned filly hit the line superbly to finish second behind Cobra Ball. She is likely to settle rearwards once again with the outside draw. (6) YEONGUNG DAEMA also lined up in a two-year-old event on debut when fourth behind Samantha Cheetah. She is capable of filling a place.
Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
A maiden open to both two and three-year-olds here. (6) MUSSANG HWANGHU came from well back to run an improved 3rd over 1200M on what was her second career start on July 18th. The slight step up in trip today can be to her benefit and she has a good chance of making the breakthrough. (7) MAKALU POWER has steadily improved over three outings to date, culminating in a runner-up finish at 1200M last start. His times have not been fast but he won’t need to improve much to be challenging here and has every chance of getting on the early speed. (11) STAR RUSH comes into contention following an improved 4th at 1200M a month ago and is another who may appreciate the small increase in distance. (1) ONE JI has been dreadful in three outings so far but looked much better when trialing two weeks ago in a fast time. Nevertheless, we’ll need to see him actually racing before we can be confident about him. The solitary debut-maker is (2) JANGSAN ENGINE and the Ecton Park filly, who has been trialing for more than a year, looked competent in her latest heat in July.

Fair to say not the most inspiring field lines up in the third event on the card. (6) POWER MUSIC is the on top selection after finishing third last time out over the 1400m. The Winchester filly will go over the same distance where she is drawn to settle just off the speed and reel of a good sectional with minimal weight on her back. (10) SHINY QUEEN is still lightly raced enough that connections will be hoping she can show something. She improved last time out and is another that can run into the minor money. (7) IRYEO HAYEO looks capable of running a place in a much weaker assignment today. It is hard to include her with one place from twenty-five starts but this is such a weak race. She steps up in both class and distance here but the manner of victory means she can go on top again. This is a strong race for the level though. (5) GOOD VOW also steps up in class following a maiden win in which she posted a time even faster than Samantha Cheetah’s and she too should be more then competitive at this level and will also challenge for the lead early. (7) BAEDARI CANDY too was a debut winner with a front-running performance and while she perhaps has a little bit more to find, looks right in the hunt as well. Moon Se-young will take over from the injured Yoo Seung-wan. The Moon will have to overcome the outside gate but the horse has been hitting the line strong, suggesting he can let the Daredevil colt have time to find his feet. She ran 8th on her re-appearance at 1300M on July 10th but that was a much stiffer race than this and she was competitive. She can win. (10) HWANHUIUI BANSEOK was a useful 3rd on debut over this distance on July 19th. He was a front-runner that day so the draw is not kind here, but he can overcome that and compete again. (2) POKPUNG EONDEOK and (9) TRAFFIC MARINE underwhelmed in their respective appearances before the shutdown but both looked good in trials and can improve here. He ran well with a 3rd and a 5th either side of the shutdown and can improve today with Moon Se Young aboard for the first time. We’re scratching around with the rest though. (5) MISO GADEUK and (6) AROMA finished 5th and 6th respectively on debut over 1000M on June 21st. They didn’t go very quick but they won’t need to get much better to go close here. A word too for apprentice jockey Lim Da-bin, who takes his first race ride on (10) TEUNTEUNA. The 4kg allowance may help the colt get a bit closer than he did on debut.
Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
The fillies face the starter in the third where they will go over the six furlongs. (10) BAEKDUWA HALLA resumed in good style first up over the 1300m late June. The chestnut reeled off a good final sectional to finish second behind Hwa Ssi Byeok in a similar type race. (2) QUEEN LION is also second up after finishing fifth behind K.N. Power over 1000m mid-July. The filly was somewhat one-paced in the event but the time was fair, suggesting with some improvement she can figure. (7) LADY LUCKY lines up for her fourth career start after running through the line in good style last time out. The chestnut will be stretched beyond the 1000m for the first time. (6) HANSEN PRIMA looks next best coming off some fair trial performances. She will line up for her debut run from a central draw.

Race 4: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
This is not a strong maiden, to put it mildly. (4) GEUMA ROBUST showed some improvement on what was her second career start on June 20th, running on reasonably well for 4th over 1200M. The additional half-furlong may suit and she has as much chance as any of making the breakthrough here. (5) HOEBOK has finished in 4th on three of his four starts to date. He’s shown little in the way of speed but won’t need to do too much more in order to go close today. (7) AFLEET MARINE debuted promisingly in 3rd place behind Wonderful Storm in June but then struggled on her return three weeks ago. The step up in trip can suit and she’s worth another chance today. (9) JOEUN GWANGYE and (11) WORLD TEUKGEUP are others who can improve.
Race 5: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
The Korean-bred maidens line up in the fifth over the 1300m. (3) CLEAN HEART has been knocking on the door at his past couple of starts and gets an ideal assignment here. He has rattled off some good sectionals this time in and is capable of finishing over the top of them here. (8) SPRING COME is second-up after a midfield performance when first up mid-July. The chestnut’s run back in February showed that he has an engine when finishing second behind Siberia over the short course. (2) ETERNAL MEMORY placed over the 1300m first up when clocking a fair time on a firm track last start. Lee Hyeong-jong will be legged aboard the three-year-old for the first time. (4) HWARYEO is best of the rest with the remainder of the field having limited depth.

Race 6: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
(4) FIRE HEART was an eye-catching winner on debut, making all for a five-length score over 1000M on a wet track on July 4th. He is up in class and distance today but he looks to have plenty more in him and can win again. It won’t be easy though as this is a useful (more…)
