Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (March 4)

Moon Se Young is Singapore-bound in the next few weeks and Seoul’s champion jockey has the ideal opportunity to put himself in the shop window as he gets on a number of likely favourites on Saturday’s Seoul card which will be simulcast to Singapore. There are 11 races from 10:40 to 18:00.

English racecards are here. Notes on simulcast races below:

Race 5: Class 5 / 1300M / Handicap / KRW 40 Million

The soon to be Singapore-bound champion jockey Moon Se Young has found himself in a tussle this year with Djordje Perovic and the pair go head to head here on the two fancies. Perovic partners (9) GEUM BONGHWANG, who is already established at this level and comes in following decent 3rd place at class and distance last time. Moon may just have the edge though with the up in class (12) JINGYEOGUI CHEONMA, a four-length winner at this distance on February 4th and seemingly with plenty of potential. (4) YAHO GIANT was an unexpected winner at this class on January 8th and must be respected here while (3) BAEKSAN ISLAND and (7) THANKS BEAN are others who could go close.

Selections (12) Jingyeogui Cheonma (9) Geum Bonghwang (4) Yaho Giant (3) Baeksan Island

Race 6: Class 4 / 1300M / Handicap / KRW 60 Million

A step up in trip may be what (7) SAMSEONG BULPAE needs to get his maiden win. He ran on very nicely last time albeit too late for he was a well-beaten 2nd but the additional furlong and a half today should suit. (1) JANGBI HAENGUN has plenty of experience at this level and at this distance and a win is surely not too far away. (6) FINE TODAY should be an early pace-setter and can stay on for a solid finish while (9) SMART JOE and (11) OKAY GOOD, who sandwiched Jangbi Haengun back in January, look to be in the frame too.

Selections (7) Samseong Bulpae (1) Jangbi Haengun (6) Fine Today (11) Okay Good

Race 7: Class 4 / 1300M / Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(5) SMART PARK and (7) JAMNYONG ran 2nd and 3rd over at class and distance on February 4th and they look to be the most likely pair to battle it out once more here. That was Jamnyong’s first race back in almost a year and while he carries a full 6kg extra today, can have come on enough to win this. (3) CHOWON BOLT should get home better today dropped back in trip while (8) BORA ZONE and (6) RULES are others who shouldn’t be ruled out.

Selections (7) Jamnyong (5) Smart Park (3) Chowon Bolt (8) Bora Zone
Next Best 6, 2

Race 8: Class 5 / 1700M / Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Yet again we’re going to have to side with Moon Se Young’s mount here. (6) JAJINMORI was 4th in decent company at class and distance on January 22nd, could well get an uncontested lead here and can go all the way. (8) NALSSAEN GANGHO took to this distance well on his first attempt at it a month ago and could go close again while (9) EUNBIT BADA steps up to two turns for the first time and could be factor as well. (4) DREAM CITY and (5) PUREUN SEDAE are others up in trip for the first time who could go close.

Selections (6) Jajinmori (8) Nalssaen Gangho (9) Eunbit Bada (4) Dream City

Race 9: Class 3 / 1700M / Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Moon Se Young doesn’t have a ride in this race so we have to finally go with someone else. We have a race of reference here with six of the eleven having raced each other at class and distance on February 5th. Favourite (9) YEONGNONG was the winner that day by a length from (6) MORNING SKY. They’re likely to be the top two again today but with the weights this time so much in favour of Morning Sky, we’ll go with the finish order to be reversed. (4) SOKBO WANGJA and (5) SINBONGBULPAE, who finished 4th and 5th in that race, look next best once more while among those who didn’t go in that race, (10) ARGO FLYING, up to two-turns for the first time, looks most tempting.

Selections (6) Morning Sky (9) Yeongnong (10) Argo Flying (4) Sokbo Wangja

Race 10: Class 3 / 1800M / Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Back to Moon Se Yong here and he really should be winning this on (7) HWANGGEUM SORI. She beat four of these on her way to 2nd place over 1700M on February 4th and so long as the track is amenable to closers, she should make it three today. (6) STORYTELLING was a length back in 3rd that day and can get close once more while (8) NAESARANG DAMYANG and (12) FORMER MISSION, who ran 4th and 5th are also likely to be involved. Among those who didn’t go that day, (2) REWARD HIGH, who just wasn’t suited by her last two outings, looks best placed to improve.

Selections (7) Hwanggeum Sori (6) Storytelling (12) Former Mission (8) Naesarang Damyang

Race 11: Class 1 / 1200M / Handicap / KRW 110 Million

Brian Dean’s (5) CHOEGANGJA has won his last three and steps up to class 1 for the first time. He looked in good shape in a trial last week and could well score again under Shane Karlsson. Moon rides (4) GAENARI and while the talented filly comes in following consecutive defeats, she may well appreciate the step back in trip and like Choegangja, has a good draw. (10) PARANG JUUIBO won a really good race at 1400M just two weeks ago and while he carries an additional 5kg today, if he can get on the early speed as he did that day, a repeat is not impossible. (11) SINGYU GANGJA and (14) YAHO SKY CAT are not to be ignored either while a return to form for (1) SEONBONG can never be completely ruled out.

Selections (5) Choegangja (4) Gaenari (11) Singyu Gangja (14) Yaho Sky Cat
