Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (October 3)

Saturday’s racing is at Seoul with 10 races from 10:35 to 17:55. It’s also the first day of the Autumn Festival which continues after racing with obligatory drone show. Here are the preview:

Malma beer is back for the autumn Festival

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Special Weight A / KRW 45 Million

(2) RUN CROWN has trialled three times and the best of those was his most recent when running third on August 6 beaten two-and-a-half lengths behind a subsequent debut winner. Andre da Silva rides and the Hansen colt can close at value. (8) SLING SMILE is one of only three in the field that has had a race and based on that third place on July 12 can go close under Seo Seung-un. (10) CUPID LUCKY and (9) WONPYEONG CAT, the mounts of Luiz Quiroz and Ruan Maia respectively, came home third and fourth separated by three-lengths in a trial on September 3 and can run well whilst (5) CENTI FORCE is next best over (11) LUMINOUS which has had plenty of trials but has improved markedly along the way.

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(6) MACHEON MAMA was second favoured in the market on debut and was far from disgraced finishing in that place chasing home a decent winner. Ruan Maia retains the ride on the juvenile filly, which had led throughout to win a trial by seven-lengths prior, and she is the one to beat. (3) POWERFUL MR. has been close in each of his three starts behind some decent winners and whilst that may be the case again in this it is possible that he could break through at the fourth attempt. Seo Seung-un rides (5) OPUS ONE which has been just worse and just better than midfield in two runs whilst a similar enough comment can be made for (7) FULL STRIKE. (11) INTO THE GALAXY is a roughie chance if not getting too far out of his ground with (2) TOO BIRD HIT next best.

Selections(6) Macheon Mama (3) Powerful Mr. (5) Opus One (7) Full Strike

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(6) LEGEND MONSTER is a two-year-old colt that is taking on the older horses for the first time following three starts for two minor placings behind smart winners and a fifth when favourite. This is a winnable race for him, and he is the one to beat under Furkan Yüksel. (9) MYEONG POWERFUL has finished in front and behind Legend Monster in each of his two runs making up good ground on each occasion and if not getting too far out of his ground will go close. The two juveniles look clearly the pair to beat with (2) PNS GUNS next best over (8) ILGEUP BISUL, (10) PERFECT GAME and (7) GLOBAL HANAM.

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(3) STEEL MORE has been placed in each of her three runs and that brings her up to one-win company for the first time. She was first-up for eight months last start when attempting to lead throughout and was only beaten a narrow margin and can go one better. There are plenty of dangers though and amongst them is (6) NAOL AURORA who led throughout to win her maiden very easily at the end of April but has been a beaten favourite in three of her next four runs, all at this class. Seo Seung-un rides for the first time which is interesting. (10) ECLIPSE MARVEL won her maiden last November and at her only run since in August was fourth in perhaps a stronger race than this. (11) HAKSAN SAMMY will do her best work late whilst (2) BINNALEEDS and (5) HAKSAN WINNER, who will perhaps be favourite, are the other main chances.

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(2) INFLATION took a while to get to the races, but this three-year-old colt finally made his debut in August and after being headed in the home straight after leading fought back strongly to get the prize by a narrow margin. He has ability and can make it two for two. However, there are some big dangers and one of those is the Furkan Yüksel ridden Luigi Riccardi trained juvenile colt (8) G B ACE which was an outstanding winner on Korean Cup Day last start roaring away to break his maiden status by five-lengths. The other is three-year-old filly (6) TEUKGEUP GISANG which led throughout to win her first race by four-lengths at the end of August. There is a great case to be made for each of these three runners as well as (10) JEONGMUN KINGDOM who won his maiden from the front last start by seven-lengths. (5) AFLEET RUN and (1) SILK SPECTER rate next in a good race for the class.

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(3) POWER BEST goes up big in trip but the way he gets to the line in his races says that the rise in distance should not hurt. He has been third in two of his past four with the most recent of those being on Korean Cup Weekend. (7) HYEOKMYEONGUIJILJU was second beaten a nose three runs ago and has since been fifth and seventh with the most recent being over this distance. The trip is a concern, but she is one of multiple each-way chances in the event. Others include (5) BEOLGYO D Y which had been around the mark prior to last time and gets a four-kilogram apprentice claim in this race, (9) LUCKY JOY which has the topweight of fifty-seven kilograms but continues to finish close, however without winning so at what may be short odds it could be worth looking elsewhere for value, good old (4) CHROMITE and (6) WONDERFUL FOX.

Seoul Race 7: Class 3 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(10) KING MASTER went into The Derby following an impressive win and followed that up in the principal classic of the year with an outstanding fourth. However, he has not been able to run to that level in two runs since as he was only midfield in the Minister’s Cup and only fourth last start over the course, distance, and grade. Seo Seung-un hops on for the first time which is interesting. (5) STUNNING FLATTER has only won twice but rarely runs a bad race and can go close. (3) CHARMING QUEEN is yet to fire this year after previously never missing the top two but rates next over last start winner (4) MY MUNNINGS, (6) ULTRA DRAGON and (9) MIGHTY SHONE.

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(10) FLYING SMART has a tricky draw to overcome from the mile start, but she has the ability and looks to be getting better. Bad starts cost her in her first couple of runs before leading throughout, when forgotten about in the market, to break her duck at the fourth attempt in June. She comes up to Class 4 for the first time following two Class 5 runs which produced a distant runner-up finish and a gritty victory and the Tony Castanheira trained three-year-old filly with Kozzi Asano up can go close. (4) CHOCOLATE came from last at the top of the straight to run third in the KRA Cup Mile (Korean 2000 Guineas) behind Funny Wild and Hwang Geum Eo Jang but could not run to that level in The Derby and Minister’s Cup. He was always in the second half of the field on his first run back in normal company last start, so he needs to improve on that, but his best is good enough. Seo Seung-un picks up the steer on (6) COWBOY SOCKS which was a last winner at her first race for four months and creates interest with (5) AWESOME QUEEN next best over (2) MYUNGJINBULLPAI and (7) NUNKKOT, who will be fancied.

Seoul Race 9: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(1) CHEONGHAE STAR has only won once from twenty-two tries but that was only three runs ago and she has been knocking on the door for another win since with her last start being a very narrow second place to one of the main chances in Race 8 on the card. She comes up to Class 4 for the first time and with very much a winnable weight can go close under Kim Hyo-jung. (3) NAOL DAEWANG is a six-year-old and is another that has not had many wins, in his case two from thirty-nine, but the most recent was only four runs back. He has been close since and can run well. (6) ARION QUEEN CAR is hard to catch but should not be totally ruled out, although patience is running thin with her, whilst two-year-old filly (10) SUPREME DIA arguably strikes the easiest race of her career to date and with Franco da Silva on board should not be denied a roughie chance. (8) SUN DOLPUNG and (11) BLUE RAIN rate next.

Selections(1) Cheonghae Star (3) Naol Daewang (6) Arion Queen Car (10) Supreme Dia

Seoul Race 10: Class 2 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

(9) RAON FLORENCE really should be winning this as it is far from the strongest Class 2 in history. He does come off the worst run of his career placing wise in a feature event on Korean Cup weekend last start but he was not all that far away in a race that was won by The Derby victor Hwang Geum Eo Jang. He had won over this grade and trip at his previous start and despite rising four kilograms and seven pounds on that run can prove too good. (8) SPARK THUNDER should have some confidence up following a two-and-a-half length victory against her own sex at Class 3 over 1600M last start when ridden for the first time by Andre da Silva, who retains the mount. Connections are taking an experiment with (4) EXCELLENT MATTA who is dropping right back in trip after at best finishing no closer than midfield at his last three following a front-running 1800M win in May. (3) MISS WIN STAR and (11) SPALTA rate next with (7) USEUNG CONCORD best of the rest.
