First snow of the year swept across the Korean peninsula this week. It didn’t hang around for long though and it should be relatively mild for the weekend’s racing which gets underway at Busan on Friday with 11 races from 11:30 to 18:00. All races available on most ADW’s in the USA (Happy Thanksgiving!) and also on the Aussie Tab. Here are the previews:
Race 1: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million
Tricky one to start off with but we’ll give the nod to (8) RED CLOUD, who beat a couple of these on his way to 2nd place in a decent race over this distance on what was just his second start four weeks ago. Not a fast starter but with a strong finish, he could well go one better today. (11) GAMUNUI YEONGGWANG and (12) CHOEGANG STEALTH were 3rd and 4th in that race and while they have a bit to find, it’s not impossible that they could get a bit closer today but more potent threats look to be (4) BAENGNYEON SIDAE and (5) YEONGGWANGUIWINNER with the former a good 2nd at the distance last time and the latter having raced in tough company on his latest two.
|Selections||(8) Red Cloud (5) Yeonggwanguiwinner (4) Baengnyeon Sidae (11) Gamunui Yeonggwang|
|Next Best||12, 10|
|Fast Start||2, 5, 9, 10|
Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 55 Million
Only four of these twelve fillies have raced before and even those just once apiece. Of those four (3) TOP EURO and (7) BAEKDU QUEEN did ok and will be backed but the favourite is going to be one of the debut-makers. That’s (11) RAINHA, a Gold Allure filly who will be sporting the Yoshida colours. Trained by Kim Young Kwan, she easily won a trial all the way back in August and her debuted has been anticipated for some time. Of the other first-timers, (1) DAEDONG WINNER, a half-sister to Tohamsan, winner of eight from eighteen in Korea, also trialled up nicely and looks to have some potential as does (5) DREAM CAT.
|Selections||(11) Rainha (3) Top Euro (1) Daedong Winner (5) Dream Cat|
|Next Best||7, 4|
|Fast Start||1, 3, 5, 11|
Race 3: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 55 Million
Juveniles only here and half are first timers and half have raced once before. We’re going to go with the ones who have experience. (3) UJU DAEWANG was favourite on debut three weeks ago following a strong showing in trials and while he could only manage 2nd, demonstrated enough to be put on top here. Also good on debut was (11) DAMYANG GONGJU, who overcame a bad start to run on nicely for 3rd and can improve today. (2) GYOHAKSANGJANG only managed 6th on her debut but it was a tough race over 1200M and today should suit a little better. Among the debut-makers, the ones to make note of are (1) RAON JEONSEOL and (12) YUHWI, both of whom showed a bit of speed in trials.
|Selections||(3) Uju Daewang (11) Damyang Gongju (2) Gyohaksangjang (1) Raon Jeonseol|
|Next Best||12, 4|
|Fast Start||1, 3|
Race 4: Class 6 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million
(2) CHOEGANG BOLT beat (5) VICAR OF THE SUN on her way to 2nd place at this distance on October 20th. However, the latter overturned that form back at 1300M two weeks later. Both should be in the hunt today. (10) ADELE HERO was behind the pair of them in that latest race but does have a 3rd to his name at this distance while likewise (7) ACE VICTORY has also shown some aptitude at a mile and will be well backed here. Neither (3) TOJONG CHAMP nor (8) DEPENDING CHAMP have shown the slightest bit of ability so far but both get stepped up to a mile for the first time and both get top jockeys on them today so watch the market.
|Selections||(5) Vicar Of The Sun (2) Choegang Bolt (7) Ace Victory (10) Adele Hero|
|Next Best||6, 3, 8|
|Fast Start||2, 5, 7, 9|
Race 5: Class 5 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
(4) GASOK TRIPLE’s maiden win had been a while coming but she secured it comfortably enough over this distance a month ago. She’s up in class today but looks nicely in and will be look to be leading from the gate. She has a good chance. (7) INDIAN GANGJA beat three of these on his way to 2nd place in a quick race over class and distance on October 15th. He followed it up with a solid, if unspectacular 4th, when well supported two weeks ago and should be close here. (8) VEGA ONE disappointed when well-backed at the distance on November 5th but still managed to beat a couple of these and is worth another chance here while (5) PARTY TONIGHT especially and (6) SOJUNGHAN INYEON are proven money winners at this level and can be considered.
|Selections||(4) Gasok Triple (5) Party Tonight (7) Indian Gangja (8) Vega One|
|Next Best||6, 12, 3|
|Fast Start||4, 8, 11|
Race 6: Class 5 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
(11) CLASSIC MATCH was sent off as the odds-on favourite for a big Juvenile race back in September. He finished 2nd, having led for much of the race and hasn’t raced since but the winner that day, World Sun, has gone on to win an even bigger race since and Classic Match returns as favourite here. (12) NALGAEREUL PYEORA is up in both class and distance following an easy score over 1000M at the end of last month and can be a threat while (8) BLESS YOU gets another chance dropped back in trip today having had a hard time over a mile last start. That day, he was beaten by (2) SUPER STEAL who can at least match back to back 4th places here. The mightily experien ced (10) LADY CHARTERED managed a good 2nd place last time and this is the kind of race she too can find some money in.
|Selections||(11) Classic Match (12) Nalgaereul Pyeora (2) Super Steal (8) Bless You|
|Next Best||10, 6, 3|
|Fast Start||11, 4, 8, 12|
Race 7: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 55 Million
Competitive race here. (7) SARANG MISO is rapidly up in class here with a win and three 2nd places from her four starts to date. There is no reason why she can’t be competitive in this company too and can set up camp behind the early lead and finish strongly. (2) GREEN GREEN is a half-sister to a Korean Derby winner (albeit the 2008 edition). He ran well on his last start at this distance struggling either side of it at a mile. Top jockey on today. Similarly, (4) DORAON GUNHAM is dropped back to a more comfortable distance and is worth another chance while (8) NEULHAERANG has won at this class in the past and a repeat isn’t impossible. The experienced (9) GEUMTE offered signs of a return to form on latest while (6) CITY WINNER steps up in class and while a win seems unlikely, could get among the prize money.
|Selections||(7) Sarang Miso (2) Green Green (4) Doraon Gunham (8) Neulhaerang|
|Next Best||9, 6, 3|
|Fast Start||3, 1, 9, 6|
Race 8: Class 4 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million
Juveniles here. (4) AWESOME KING IJI came form a long way back and finished off very pleasingly on debut over 1000M on November 3rd. He didn’t look to enjoy the kickback especially, but the extra furlong here should suit and he should win. (7) GLOBAL JILJU was a much improved 2nd on what was his second outing at the end of last month and can go well again while (2) YEONGGWANGUIFACTOR has come close in three of his four starts to date and should make the early running with every chance of staying on. A Kim Young Kwan debut-maker is always going to get noticed and $80,000 Pioneerof The Nile colt (1) KOREA BLADE is no exception. He was distinctly unimpressive in trials but punters will be wary. (6) KOREAN FORCE only cost $5,000 but did actually win a trial and the market will be worth watching.
|Selections||(4) Awesome King Iji (2) Yeonggwanguifactor (7) Global Jilju (1) Korea Blade|
|Next Best||6, 5|
|Fast Start||2, 6|
Race 9: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 55 Million
We keep giving (4) DUBAI FORWARD another chance and he keeps coming up short but nevertheless, we’re going to give him another one here. This race is a touch weaker than his latest couple and he can get it right today. (2) LUCKY BLESSING is yet to win in twelve but hasn’t been too far away and gest close here too while (1) EOROK and (6) DANGDAE HWASIN have claims too. The solitary debut-maker is (7) CUBAUI YEOLJEONG. Out of Majestic Warrior, who is proving popular with Korean importers at the moment, she was a $27K purchase from OBS and won her trial gate to wire in impressive fashion. Not impossible.
|Selections||(4) Dubai Forward (7) Cubaui Yeoljeong (2) Lucky Blessing (1) Eorok|
|Next Best||6, 11|
|Fast Start||6, 7, 11|
Race 10: Class 3 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million
The experienced (2) RUN STAR has only won three of thirty but enters in solid form having finished no worse than 3rd in each of his latest seven and he’ll surely maintain that today. (4) FOUR NINES returned from a lengthy absence to run a very creditable 4th just two weeks ago and could well be the main danger. That race featured no fewer than seven of the twelve who go here and was won, slightly surprisingly, by (9) BAROGA, and that one will need plenty of respect here too. (6) MUJEOK SINHWA and (10) FEISTY were among the also rans that day but have every chance of getting closer this time.
|Selections||(2) Run Star (4) Four Nines (9) Baroga (6) Mujeok Sinhwa|
|Next Best||10, 7|
|Fast Start||3, 4, 6|
Race 11: Class 2 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million
(11) CHOEGANG DREAM was a tailed-off last in the President’s Cup at Seoul three weeks ago. That can be written off though as the 2000M was unsuitable and the competition was as stiff as it gets. Today, back at 1200M and in Busan class 2, neither of those things apply and he should really be returning to winning ways. (1) GABO STAR and (2) BLUE STORM look best placed to stop him, the former having beaten a couple of these on the way to a 2nd place at class and distance last month and the latter having looked sharp in recent trials. (7) YUSEONGCHEOREOM and (8) TRIPLE PARTY are others in the hunt.
|Selections||(11) Choegang Dream (1) Gabo Star (2) Blue Storm (8) Triple Party|
|Next Best||7, 3|
|Fast Start||2, 7, 10|
