There’s no Stakes action this weekend but there is still plenty to keep us occupied with a competitive Friday card at Busan from 12:50 to 18:00 kicking things off:

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million
Juvenile maiden fillies with only one of the twelve having previously raced. That experience may well serve (1) AMUR in good stead though. She overcame a wide draw to run 3rd in a fair time on debut on September 16th and with some natural improvement and a better draw, she can win this. (3) ALPHA BRAVO is the pick of the newcomers. She was an on-pace 3rd in her trial, stopping the clock in a good time. She draws well to get to the speed here and she won’t need to improve much on that showing to be in the mix here. (7) KELLY QUEEN won her trial, sitting handy and then running on well in a fair time, while (8) BURUICHUKJE too performed well in her heat, starting slowly but running home well. (2) SKY SHOT is another who posted the kind of time to suggest that she can be competitive first up.
Selections | (1) Amur (3) Alpha Bravo (7) Kelly Queen (8) Buruichukje |
Next Best | 2, 12 |
Fast Start | 1, 3, 6, 7 |
Busan Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
Juvenile maidens with all of the twelve having raced at least once before. (5) BUILD UP showed promise across three starts over 1200M including a runner-up finish in a fast time at the start of September. He was then given his chance in the Areumdaun Jilju Stakes facing the best juveniles at the track, where he wasn’t able to make much of an impact but ran on fairly enough to beat a couple home. He returns to shallower waters today and can win. The main danger looks to be (7) ILGANG DAERO. He comes back in trip having led for much of the way around over 1400M on September 16th, ultimately finishing 2nd, well beaten by a good winner. The distance here can suit. We’ll draw a line through (9) VEREUDA’s debut when slowly away and then well back. He had previously trialed nicely and is worth another chance here. (8) WONDERFUL APPEAL and (1) PEGACORN others in the hunt.
Selections | (5) Build Up (7) Ilgang Daero (9) Vereuda (8) Wonderful Appeal |
Next Best | 1, 10 |
Fast Start | 1, 4, 5, 7 |
Busan Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million
It’s hard to look too far past (3) PATRIOT here. There was more than a year between his debut and his second start but he looked very well when returning on September 25th and racing handy throughout, running on for 2nd place at 1200M. He draws well here, the additional half furlong shouldn’t be a problem, and he may take some beating. (8) B. K. HUNTER returned from a similarly lengthy absence on September 30th and put in a pleasing run, sitting midfield and improving to 4th at the finish over 1200M. He doesn’t benefit from an apprentice claim this time but he should strip fitter for that run, and can go close. (7) ADELE HORANGI is another that doesn’t have a claim on board this time, but he has finished off his races well and may appreciate the slight step up in trip here. (1) WISE BOY ran 3rd behind Patriot last month and while he has six-lengths to make up on the favourite, he can beat plenty of these. (9) LET IT GO another in the frame.
Selections | (3) Patriot (8) B. K. Hunter (7) Adele Horangi (1) Wise Boy |
Next Best | 9, 2 |
Fast Start | 1, 3, 7, 10 |
Busan Race 4: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
(2) GEUMA UNO remains a maiden having been promoted to this class following back-to-back runner-up finishes in August. He showed he can be competitive at this level with a good 3rd place over 1300M on October 9th when handy throughout and the slight step up in trip today may be what he needs to get over the line on top. (8) DONGBU STAR came from off the pace to run 2nd at class and distance two weeks ago, his best finish since his win back in May. He comes up slightly in the weights but should be a danger again today. (12) DOCTOR PERSIA had a poor day at the office when tried at a mile last time out. His form prior to that was solid though and he comes in here following eight weeks out down in the weights. Given his running style, the wide draw shouldn’t be a concern. (4) INDIAN PARTY was well back behind Dongbu Star last time out but has the fastest time among these for the distance and can improve. (10) YOUNG BOSS among others who can enter the calculations.
Selections | (2) Geuma Uno (8) Dongbu Star (12) Doctor Persia (4) Indian Party |
Next Best | 10, 6 |
Fast Start | 1, 2, 7, 10 |
Busan Race 5: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
Fillies and mares only here. (5) GREAT MISS ran 2nd on debut in August before making all to score very comfortably over 1000M at start number two on September 16th. She comes up in class and in trip here but the manner of that victory suggests that she will be hard to beat again and she will start a warm favourite. (4) J.S. DAY will be second-favourite. She too got her maiden at start number two, also making all but over 1200M. She then ran 4th on her first try at this class over 1300M when, having drawn wide, she settled handy, dropped back to midfield and then ran on. She comes up in the weights, but that’s balanced a little by a better gate. (6) FASHION FORCE ONE also comes into a better gate than the one she drew last time out. That was her first go at this class following three 3rd place finishes at class 6 level, but she can be given another chance in what is a softer race. (9) DREAM OF QUEEN and (1) A ONCE others in the placing frame.
Selections | (5) Great Miss (4) J.S. Day (6) Fashion Force One (9) Dream Of Queen |

Busan Race 6: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
Competitive race. (2) MILLION BANK returns to action for the first time since April when she was 3rd at class and distance. She looked very well when winning a trial at the start of this month and from a good draw, she can win first-up here. Returning from even longer out is (7) YEONGGWANGUILEGEND, who was last seen finishing midfield in the Breeders’ Cup champion juvenile race last December. Prior to that he won a juvenile Listed race. He went through a trial in July and then again in mid-September, posting good times and while he will surely need the run, a winning return isn’t impossible. (5) GRAPHENE KING comes rapidly up in class having won two of his latest three, most recently making all over this distance on September 18th. The same apprentice keeps his carried weight down and from a good draw, he can get on pace and be in this a long way again. (6) HANSEN ICHEON and (11) GOOD SOCKS are others to consider.
Selections | (2) Million Bank (7) Yeonggwanguilegend (5) Graphene King (6) Hansen Icheon |
Next Best | 11, 8 |
Fast Start | 5, 7, 10, 11 |
Busan Race 7: Class 4 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million
Tricky race. (6) LUCKY BREAK beat three of these on his way to 3rd place at class and distance on September 30th, when overcoming gate ten to sit midfield and then run on. She was third-up that day so there is a chance she may have been peaking, but a repeat of that performance could see her in the winner’s circle here. (4) CHEONGHO LEADER enters with recent form reading well with a 3rd and a 4th, both at this distance, among his last three outings. He can sit handy or settle back and run on and will have plenty of supporters here. (3) MIDNIGHT QUEEN ran 4th behind Lucky Break in that September 30th race over class and distance. That was an uptick on recent form and she can keep that going here. (5) TRAFFIC MARINE and (1) WONDERFUL WORLD others in the hunt.
Selections | (6) Lucky Break (4) Cheongho Leader (3) Midnight Queen (5) Traffic Marine |
Next Best | 1, 7 |
Fast Start | 2, 3, 6, 9 |
Busan Race 8: Class 3 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million
(1) USURP is a winner of four from eight and while he has been a beaten favourite in both if his outings so far at this class, looks worth another chance here. From a good draw on the inside, he can settle just behind the early speed and may prove too strong late on. (2) SANGSEUNG BOY comes up in class following a good win in a fast time over this distance on September 2nd when handy throughout. He draws a much better gate, comes down significantly in the weights, and he surely measures up at this level. (10) CHOEGANG SSONSAL returned from nine months out to run 3rd in a fast time over 1200M on October 2nd. He has previously run very fast times at this distance and should have come on for that run. (9) TTEUGEOUN MANNAM and (3) DOCTOR FAITH among plenty of others with placing claims.
Selections | (1) Usurp (2) Sangseung Boy (10) Choegang Ssonsal (9) Tteugeoun Mannam |
Next Best | 3, 6 |
