There are 12 Saturday races at Seoul from 10:45 to 18:00. It’s a beauiful sunny morning in the Korean capital so come racing! Here are the previews:
Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million
(1) CHEONGUN ILHO was a decent 5th on her first start back following six months out in August and she can get her maiden breakthrough here. (8) PYEONGCHON CROWN was a solid 4th on debut on July 30th and can build on that today while (3) WONDERFUL LUCKY and (5) ACE TROPHY both look to have scope for improvement.
|Selections||(1) Cheongun Ilho (8) Pyeongchon Crwon (3) Wonderful Lucky (5) Ace Trophy|
|Fast Start||1, 5, 8|
Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million
Interesting contest here. (3) REBECCA and (10) MR. KING have both had a few near misses but remain maidens after plenty of starts. They should both be close but of the two, it’s Rebecca who looks to have the stronger claims of getting one in the win column today. They may, however, both find themselves beaten by (9) BROWN BOMBER. He showed promise on debut, finishing 6th of 12 at this distance four weeks ago and should have come for it. (6) FIRST QUEEN and (7) BIG AURORA are others in the frame.
|Selections||(9) Brown Bomber (3) Rebecca (10) Mr. King (6) First Queen|
|Next Best||7, 2|
|Fast Start||3, 5, 7|
Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million
(7) FIORE was just beaten a nose on what was her second career start over 1300M on August 19th. She’ll be strong favourite to score here in this all-juvenile race. Her main threat may come from a first-time starter. (4) THE JIJON was a smart trial winner in August and looks nicely in here first-up. (3) WILD DRAGON also looked promising in trials and looks an interesting first-timer while (2) OPI WINTER has every chance of building on a reasonably encouraging debut in a valuable race at this distance on August 20th.
|Selections||(7) Fiore (2) Opi Winter (3) Wild Dragon (4) The Jijon|
|Next Best||1, 5|
|Fast Start||3, 4|
Race 4: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million
Stepped back to the minimum trip today, (8) BAEKSAN YEOWANG can get on the early speed and stay on to get her maiden win here over distinctly average opposition. (6) HIGH STAR was 2nd in an even weaker race than this last time and could get close while (9) KHENDUM POWER didn’t do too much wrong in running 4th at the distance a month ago. (2) BEST DOLPUNG and (5) MUJEOKUI SUNGAN looks best of the rest.
|Selections||(8) Baeksan Yeowang (6) High Star (9) Khendum Power (2) Best Dolpung|
|Next Best||5, 3, 1|
|Fast Start||2, 3, 8|
Race 5: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million
Five of these race for the first time today but one of the other four is going to be the strong favourite. That’s (6) FIRE WIND, who just came up short when favourite on debut on August 26th. It was a decent showing though and the extra furlong should be enough to see him home today. (7) PHOENIX HEART was promising on debut in July and while he didn’t go especially well at 1300M on reappearance last month, can be better this time while (8) ROYAL BOKSUNI ran on pleasingly enough over the minimum a month ago and should also be in the hunt for a place. Among the debut-makers (1) CULLINAN was fastest in trials and will likely be the only one backed to any great extent.
|Selections||(6) Fire Wind (7) Phoenix Heart (1) Cullinan (8) Royal Boksuni|
|Next Best||4, 5|
|Fast Start||1, 2, 7, 8|
Race 6: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
Full field here and nice and competitive it looks too. (12) SHANGHAI PANGPANG beat (5) DAEGUNHAM by half a length as the pair ran 3rd and 4th over class and distance on August 20th. The former is yet to win in twenty starts and while she consistently beats her odds, we’ll go with Daegunham to prevail here. (1) NURI MYEONGGA finds himself up in class despite still being a maiden. He comes in following back to back 2nd place finishes at class 6 and shouldn’t find the competition here in any way intimidating. (2) DALDARI was beaten by a couple of rivals here on a very wet track over 1000M last time but steps up in trip today. She should set the pace and may well go all the way.
|Selections||(5) Daegunham (2) Daldari (12) Shanghai Pangpang (1) Nuri Myeongga|
|Next Best||8, 9|
|Fast Start||2, 10, 12|
Race 7: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
Eight first-timers among the twelve here and for once it is one of those debut-makers that we’re going to go for. (3) EMPIRE KINGDOM has the kind of magisterial name that should be a winner and while he only cost $15,000, he looked very competent in a trial at the end of August and if he brings that kind of form to the track, he’ll win. (10) WHANGHORAN JILJU has finished no better than 4th in ten outings so far. However, he dropped back into trials last week and looked ready for a fresh start, winning his heat and he comes into contention here. Aussie import (9) VITAL BROWN finished 2nd in that very same trial and can also be considered first-up while (11) AMAZING SOCKS also looked as though he knew what he was doing when running 2nd in a trail of his own two weeks ago. Among the others with experience, (8) GEUMA CLIFF returns nine weeks after running a respectable 5th of 11 on debut and can build on that today.
|Selections||(3) Empire Kingdom (9) Vital Brown (11) Amazing Socks (8) Geuma Cliff|
|Fast Start||3, 7, 9, 10|
Race 8: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
(3) P.K. PARTY is three for three with her most recent having been at this class over 1200M on August 13th. This is her first time at 1300M but there’s not too much to fear here and so long as she gets on or near to the early pace, she should really maintain her unbeaten record. (1) K KING was a touch disappointing when running 6th of 11 in useful company in July but returns from nine weeks off and should be back in the placing hunt. Likewise (2) GEOMJIN was poor last start but is generally reliable and can place. Those three will all be expected to be on the pace early and if anything is going to come through late, it could be (9) STRONG FIELD, who drops back in trip following a 4thplace over 1700M on August 19th. Behind him that day was (10) EONJE EODISEONA, who has actually won twice this year at that extended distance and could also be involved.
|Selections||(3) P.K. Party (1) K King (2) Geomjin (9) Strong Field|
|Next Best||10, 8|
|Fast Start||1, 2, 3|
Race 9: Class 5 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
While it’s always risky tipping up a fourteen-race maiden but that’s precisely what we’re going to do here with (2) REAL GULCH. No worse than 4th in any of her latest seven starts, she’s been getting closer and closer and this could be her day. Should she fall short once more, (4) CUPID PARK could be the one to take advantage. She and (7) STRONG SHINE came home in 3rd and 4th at class and distance on July 30th and should go close once more. The latter of those two was 3rd behind Real Gulch last month while (6) BOSEOG SANGJA was an improved 2nd at 1300M last start and steps up to two turns for the first time. (1) CHEONJI GONGSA also looks to be in the placing frame.
|Selections||(2) Real Gulch (4) Cupid Park (7) Strong Shine (6) Boseog Sangja|
|Next Best||1, 5|
|Fast Start||4, 8|
Race 10: Class 4 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
(6) AREUMDAUN SIGAN got promoted to 2nd last start having been interfered with yet still wasn’t too far from getting her maiden win on her first try at this distance. She’s had eight weeks off since and that maiden victory could well arrive here. (7) JINGYEOGUI YEONGUNG and (1) PRIVATE PARK came home in 3rd and 4th when they raced each other over this distance on August 12th with the latter slightly favoured to improve here. (3) JWACHEONGNYONG comes in following a creditable 2nd place at this distance four weeks ago while (4) GONGJANGMYEONGWANG is up in class having run out a three-length winner, again at this distance, at the end of July and should be in the hunt again under a light weight.
|Selections||(6) Areumdaun Sigan (1) Private Park (4) Gongjangmyeongwang (3) Jwacheongnyong|
|Next Best||7, 8|
|Fast Start||1, 7|
Race 11: Class 2 (1900M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million
Small field and we’ll have a strong favourite. That’s (7) BANYA DONGHAENG who comes in with solid form against tough company behind him recently and he should have too much for these. Last time out Banya Donghaeng was 2nd at 1800M, with (3) MY BLADE just over a length back in 2nd. My Blade is set to be one of the dangers here while the very experienced (1) PERFECT SHINE also goes well on his day and could come close. (5) HAETBINNA too is capable of running well but all of those have plenty to find if they are to challenge the favourite.
|Selections||(7) Banya Donghaeng (3) My Blade (5) Haetbinna (1) Perfect Shine|
Race 12: Class 3 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million
Good race to finish with and a few have claims. We’ll go with the up and coming – and up in class – (5) FACT HEAVENS, a brisk winner at minimum distance on August 12th to continue her development here and potentially lead from gate to wire. (11) MUSTANG STRONG Comes in off two solid 3rd place finishes and should be involved while (12) BROADWAY SIN was 2nd in a decent race over 1400M a month ago and should also be in contention. (2) FORMER MISSION and (3) GOLD HORAH will not be without backers either.
|Selections||(5) Fact Heavens (11) Mustang Strong (3) Gold Horah (12) Broadway Sin|
|Next Best||2, 8|
|Fast Start||5, 7, 8, 12|
