Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (August 26)

The final day of evening racing for 2017 is about to get underway at Seoul Racecourse. There are 12 Saturday races from 14:00 to 21:00. Here are the (brief) simulcast race notes:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Twelve first-timers going here and a few of them stood out in trials and work. (8) FIRE WIND was the most impressive, winning her trial in a fast time and she’s the likely favourite. Both trainer and jockey are in form and can get underway with a win here. (9) DAE BYEONHWA is the mount of champion jockey Moon Se Young and was actually quicker in trials than Fire Wind and is sure to be backed while others who caught the eye are (3) RAON ALICE and (2) SIMPLE RULES.

Selections (8) Fire Wind (9) Dae Byeonhwa (3) Raon Alice (2) Simple Rules
Next Best 1, 12
Fast Start 2, 3, 8, 11

Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(5) WINNING WIN has the name for it and following a solid 4th place on debut at the end of last month could make the breakthrough today. He’ll be taken on by (2) CHAMPION GOLD, who struggled when stepped up to 1300M on July 29th but registered a 2nd place at this distance the time before and should appreciate the drop back in trip. (9) SIMPLE LIFE made a promising debut last month and can progress under a top jockey booking today while both (1) MUJEOKUI SUNGAN and (6) SUPER FIELD can also get close.

Selections (5) Winning Win (2) Champion Gold (9) Simple Life (6) Super Field
Next Best 1
Fast Start 2, 5, 6, 8

Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(3) REBECCA began her career promisingly a year ago but has had some setbacks. She makes her first start since a decent 4th of 11 at this distance on June 18th and could well strike here. Competition will come from (9) NEULPUREUN CHEONHA, who recorded his best finish to date when 2nd over this distance on July 30th and can build on that today. (4) NILUI BADA is in the best form of an admittedly underwhelming career and could well get close again under an apprentice jockey who seems to be able to get the best out of him. The only time (8) STAR SINBI has managed to get round, he finished a creditable 3rd back in January and with Moon Se Young on board today, looks intriguing while (6) GEUMBIT HWANHYANG has been one-paced in two starts so far but steps up in trip today and looks the type who could plod on and pass a few late in the race.

Selections (3) Rebecca (9) Neulpureun Cheonha (4) Nilui Bada (8) Star Sinbi
Next Best 6, 7
Fast Start 2, 3, 9

Race 4: Class 6 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 22 Million

(6) DONGSEO GADEUK looks ready to win having shown good improvement to register a 3rd and a 2nd from her latest two. Both times she beat (5) SAMDA BULKKOT, running on nicely, and stepping up to 1700M today could well suit. None of the twelve have tried this distance before and others who may appreciate the opportunity include (4) SISPUMA WINNER, who has been close on a number of occasions, and (1) FIRST RUNNER, an improved 5th last time and who may be starting to figure things out. (11) OFFICER WOMAN looks best of the rest.

Selections (6) Dongseo Gadeuk (4) Sispuma Winner (1) First Runner (11) Officer Woman
Next Best 5, 3
Fast Start 1, 3, 7, 10

Race 5: Class 5 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Small field here but nonetheless competitive. (2) ÉCLAIR DREAM was an eye-catching four-length winner on July 29th and while it wasn’t an especially strong race and she is up in class today, she can be competitive again. The pick though emerges from the outside gate as (7) RAON WINNER, 3rd in a really quick test at this distance last time out, looks to be ready to win at this class. He may not lead from the gate but should have plenty of speed late on. (3) SEVEN’S LUCKY comes in following a solid 2nd place last time while (5) BOMBI’S KING is up in class but should be competitive.

Selections (7) Raon Winner (2) Éclair Dream (3) Seven’s Lucky (5) Bombi’s King
Next Best 6
Fast Start 2, 3, 5

Race 6: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

(8) EPIPOLAR is yet to win in four outings but has been promoted to this class anyway on the back of consecutive 2nd place finishes, both at 1300M. She can get on the early speed here and could very well go all the way. (7) SIMON MISSILE was 3rd on her first try at this level over 1000M on July 23rd and can get close once more while (6) GOODMORNING FUSION and (10) THINK OF ME are well established at this class and capable of at least competing for places. (2) DAE BONGHWANG races for the first time since March and trialed up well.

Selections (8) Epipolar (10) Think Of Me (7) Simon Missile (2) Dae Bonghwang
Next Best 6, 4
Fast Start 4, 8, 9

Race 7: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

On (8) DONGHAE TENTENTEN’s debut in June, his jockey Ha Jung Hun, lost an iron shortly after the start. He didn’t manage to get it back but still managed to finish a close 3rd. On his return on July 30th, he had no such problems and was a relatively comfortable winner. He is up in class today but still looks to have an excellent chance. He’ll sit behind an early pace which is likely to be set by (1) SMARTY ZIF and (6) GOLD SHEENA, both of whom enter after solid runs at this class and have claims today while (4) SPECIAL QUEEN had a hard time at 1700M two weeks ago but should be much happier dropped back in trip today.

Selections (8) Donghae Tententen (6) Gold Sheena (1) Smarty Zif (4) Special Queen
Next Best 10, 7
Fast Start 1, 6

Race 8: Class 4 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

A class and distance winner on July 23rd, (8) GEUM NOA carries an additional 4kg today but still looks the one to beat here. He’ll settle behind the early lead and has a strong finish. In that race, (6) DANGCHAN MOSEUP actually crossed the line in 2nd place but got demoted to 3rd for interference. She’s in the strongest form of her career and could well get close once more. (2) EONJENA JEONGSANG didn’t run at all badly at this distance on July 30th and can go well again while (1) SEONJE ILGYEOK and (7) CHEONWANG BYEOL are also in the hunt.

Selections (8) Geum Noa (6) Dangchan Moseup (7) Cheonwang Byeol (2) Eonjena Jeongsang
Next Best 1
Fast Start 6

Race 9: Class 2 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

It took (10) GAEULI JEONSEOL ten races to figure things out but since he did he’s been unstoppable, winning four in a row. He’s up to 1800M for the first time but that shouldn’t be a problem and with an apprentice jockey knocking a couple of kilos off, he has to be the one to beat again. (11) O.K. YEONDAB comes in following a hugely creditable 3rd place in the KNN Cup over a mile at Busan a month ago and warrants respect while (7) MY BLADE was 2nd, just beaten a nose, in the Ilgan Sports Cup on July 30th and likewise has claims. (2) PLACES TO GO and (8) BANYA DONGHAENG look best of the rest.

Selections (10) Gaeuli Jeonseol (11) O.K. Yeondab (7) My Blade (2) Places To Go
Next Best 8, 6
Fast Start 1, 10

Race 10: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Competitive contest with (1) GEUMGOKSUNG getting the nod having come close in her latest two, the most recent at class and distance. (10) WHIZ SPARK was a slightly surprising class and distance winner on July 22nd, making all to win by half a length and has to be respected here while (6) HUIMANG POINT beat (7) CHEON YANG quite handily when the pair ran 2nd and 3rd over 1200M on July 30th and the former especially is a danger again today. (12) BEYOND LIMIT was a fast winner over 1000M on July 29th and can’t be ruled out while (2) SERA KING also looks in contention in this tricky test.

Selections (1) Geumgokseong (10) Whiz Spark (6) Huimang Point (12) Beyond Limit
Next Best 2, 8
Fast Start 2, 3, 9, 10
