After a week off for the Lunar New Year, racing returns to the peninsula on Friday with 11 races at Busan from 11:30 to 18:00.

Race 4: Class 6 / 1600M / Allowance / KRW 22 Million / 13:40

(4) WILD COP beat three of these when running 3rd over 1300M on New Year’s Eve and could be the one to beat up at a mile for the first time. We’ll go with (9) I’M ADELE though. He was a much improved 2nd at that same distance the same day and can also benefit from this lengthier task. (5) TIMELESS and (11) MEISTER GO both look to be improvers too while (8) DIVINE KING is likely to set the early pace and could stay on.

Race 5: Class 5 / 1000M / Handicap / KRW 40 Million / 14:30

(7) CHARTERED DREAM has come close time and again including last start when she ran 2nd beating three of these and this looks to be her best chance of getting a win. Another perennial non-winner (6) MISS CANBERRA was 4th in that race, a position she can match here. Main danger looks to be (10) VICTORY BROWN who is up in class following a four-length score on January 6th and looks to have potential for an in-form stable while (4) GOLD FLYING and (12) WONDER BOY are others who can be considered.

Race 6: Class 4 / 1000M / Handicap / KRW 55 Million / 15:20

It often pays to follow proven domestic winners in these types of races and dropped back to 1000M today, (3) EOREUM GONGJU is very much the one to beat. She’s a fast starter and if she gets the lead, she should win. There’s plenty of potential among the imports though. (8) AWESOME DOLL and (9) MUJEOK WONDERFUL were both 2nd on their respective debuts in January and can continue their development here while (4) YEONGGWANG SEUNGNI ran on nicely in decent company last start two months ago and comes in fresh. (1) DANGDAE GEOHAM too was an improved 2nd last start and can show that was no fluke.

(5) TAKE FOUR MEALS was a winner on debut over 1200M four weeks ago and while up in class and distance today, has every chance of scoring once more. (1) YUSEONG FIRST was a well-beaten but decent looking 2nd at class and distance last start and can follow up here while (9) AQUA QUEEN finally struck at the sixteenth time of asking on January 6th and while up in class should be competitive in this company. (4) RAPA CHUKJE generally finds one or two too quick but can find the money while (11) AGNES is up in class following two 2nd places and has potential.

Race 8: Class 4 / 1200M / Handicap / KRW 55 Million / 16:35

She suffered her first defeat on January 13th but it’s hard to look past (10) HAPPY GONGJU returning to winning ways here. Bart Rice’s (4) SHORT STOP returns to action following seven months out and looked good winning a January trial while (1) YEONGGWANGUICHUBOK and (6) B.K. KING ran 2nd and 5th respectively over class and distance on January 6th and both come into consideration for money finishes again. (8) JIBONG JILJU is another who resumes following a long spell and looks to be the wildcard choice.

(10) CHOA won a similar race by a nose on December 30th and while he carries more weight today, can be backed to repeat in what looks like similar competition. (2) PHILIP AND GIRAFFE has had an interrupted career but was 3rd last start when favourite and can go close again. (6) CHOEGANG YONGSA was a very good 4th in a better race than this on New Year’s Eve and can be respected while (8) ITSAGAINT WARRIOR and (9) CHOEGANG POWERFUL are others to look out for.

Race 10: Class 2 / 1800M / Handicap / KRW 90 Million / 17:30

Good race this. Both (3) SMART VALOR and (8) BEOLMAUI SIN come in looking for their third straight win. They’ve both won at the distance but the latter’s success at this class means he’s likely to be favoured. (1) SOUL BLADE beat five of his rivals here when running 2nd at class and distance in December and must be taken seriously while (4) STEALTH and (9) MIRICLE IJI look best of the rest.

Race 11: Class 3 / 1400M / Handicap / KRW 75 Million / 18:00

(2) GOOD CASTING and (6) AMERANCE FASHION came home 4th and 5th in a very competitive Juvenile race on the last day of 2016 and they look to be the standouts here. Good Casting was three lengths superior that day and is likely to be strong favourite. (10) MUPAE started his career very brightly but races for the first time since last July. He looked bright in a barrier trial in January and can be considered first-up. (9) BESTOWED is up in class and distance following a seven-length score a month ago while (8) COWBOY CAPTAIN beat three of these when finishing 3rd last time out and can beat plenty again.
