Busan Friday: Race-By-Race Preview (November 25)

It’s been a busy week off the track in Korean racing with the US racing media reporting Take Charge Indy is the latest stallion to be Jeju Island bound. Racing gets back underway at Busan on Friday with 11 races from 11:30 to 18:00.

English race cards are here. Notes on overseas simulcast races 4-11 are below:

Race 4: Class 6 / 1300M / Allowance / KRW 20 Million / 13:35

(2) TIMELESS was 4th of 12 on debut over 1000M at the end of last month. She finished strongly that day and is favourite to score over an extended distance here. The main danger is (10) HWANGGEUMBIT JILJU, who debuted unimpressively in June but returned much more strongly last month to actually beat Timeless on October 28th. (5) ALSO POWERFUL showed improvement last month and can be considered while (11) DESTINY and (12) JIBONG YEONGUNG also look capable of finding the money here.

(1) REALLY ONE has just one win from eleven but two 2nd places among his last three outings an on October 28th was beaten only by the very promising Evergreen Tree at this distance with a couple of others here behind him He’ll be a front-runner, has a strong finish and should take this. One of the ones he beat last time was (8) TIGER SLAM, 4th in that race on what was his first try at this level and he can continue his development today. (9) GOLD FLYING was an unexpected winner last time and while up in class, will get more respect today while the ever so slightly disappointing (4) MISS CANBERRA and the unlucky (6) MOHAVE WANGJA, who did manage to get his maiden win last time out, are the others to watch.

Race 6: Class 4 / 1000M / Handicap / KRW 55 Million / 15:05

(1) SWOOP saw his winning streak ended at three when he was beaten into 3rd place having led close to home over 1200M on November 4th. He gets another chance today back at 1000M and is a serious contender. (11) V DIVA is the danger. She was a slightly disappointing 5th when favourite over 1200M last time but both her wins so far have come at this distance and she looks competitive. Peter Wolsley sends out two debut-makers here and US import (9) PERLIN looks promising having won his trial in good fashion. (2) RITA COUNTRY and (12) LOAD CELL, who disappointed when back off a layoff last start are others to look out for.

Race 7: Class 5 / 1200M / Handicap / KRW 40 Million / 15:50

(6) AMERICAN POWER was a strong winner on debut at the beginning of this month and while up in class and distance today, Kim Young Kwan’s colt will be favourite to score once more. Best chance of stopping him lies with (4) QUEEN’S QUEEN, who can be forgiven her last outing which came in Busan’s championship juvenile race and should be much more comfortable at this level. (5) BAROGA too should be better back in trip today while the experienced pair of (3) BEST PERFORMER and (10) LADY CHARTERED while perhaps not potential winners, can find the money in this company.

Selections: (6) American Power (4) Queen’s Queen (5) Baroga (10) Lady Chartered

Race 8: Class 5 / 1300M / Handicap / KRW 40 Million / 16:35

Tricky race this and (1) ONLY BLUE, a surprise winner at this class over 1200M last month can follow up. It won’t be easy though. (7) PENTA HEELS showed she’s ready to win again with a decent 2nd place at class and distance on November 4th and will be a danger while (5) SUNGANUI BEOPCHIK can be given another chance following a slightly disappointing outing when well backed a month ago. (2) GOLDEN KINGS and (4) WINNING GILI both drop back in trip and have claims while the up in class (12) AREUMDAUN OECHIM shouldn’t be overlooked.

Selections: (7) Penta Heels (2) Golden Kings (1) Only Blue (12) Areumdaun Oechim

Race 9: Class 4 / 1200M / Handicap / KRW 55 Million / 17:00

Another very competitive race and (1) GANGJA DAERO got his maiden win at the 43rd time of asking on November 4th and it’s not impossible he could follow up right away here. (12) SUPER JJANGJJANGI was 3rd on his first try at this class two weeks and should be looking to at least match that here while (4) PHANTOM BLADE disappointed last start but surely has a win in him at this level. (3) NANDA DORI has weakened late on in each of her last three efforts and may appreciate the slight drop back in trip while cases can be made too for (7) HUIMANG QUEEN and (8) BAEDARI DAEWANG.

Selections: (3) Nanda Dori (12) Super Jjangjjangi (4) Phantom Blade (1) Gangja Daero

Race 10: Class 2 / 1800M / Handicap / KRW 88 Million / 17:30

(12) TOHAMSAN failed to finish his only previous try at this distance in the pouring rain in the Korean Derby in Seoul but he’s won six times at shorter distances, including at this class, and has every chance of stepping up here. He will try to lead from gate to wire. Main danger is (11) JUNGANG DAEHAE, a strong – if unexpected – 3rd at class and distance last start and who can repeat. (7) SANGSEUNG JUNIOR steps up in class and has performed at this distance before even if slightly shorter would be preferred. (2) IRON TRAIN is also up in class after three months off since a win at this distance at the end of August while (5) NAGASINDA should appreciate being back at two turns today having previously won over 1900M.

Selections: (12) Tohamsan (11) Jungang Daehae (7) Sangseung Junior (2) Iron Train
Next Best: 5, 3
Rating: 12, 11, 9, 1, 3

200M-Finish: 5, 2, 10, 8, 3

Race 11: Class 3 / 1400M / Handicap / KRW 72 Million / 18:00

Another competitive race to finish with although (4) JILJUUI SIN, racing for the first time since a class and distance win on September 23rd looks the clear pick. (2) COWBOY CAPTAIN was 2nd that day and followed up with a win of his own in October and is the main danger again. (10) DYNAMIC TANK, making his first start for David Miller, should be looking to at least match the 3rd he scored last time out while (5) KKEUTPAN BOOSTER and (9) MATCH POWER both look very capable at this level.

Selections: (4) Jiljuui Sin (2) Cowboy Captain (10) Dynamic Tank (5) Kkeutpan Booster
