Busan Friday: Race-By-Race Preview (November 6)

There is a 10-race card at Busan this Friday between 10.45 and 17.55 and it is arguably the most competitive of the weekend. Here are the previews:

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Special Weight / KRW 45 Million

Juvenile maidens with six of the eleven racing for the first time. (2) FLY SKY took four tries to qualify but looked competent in his latest two. Running 2nd in a heat in August and then winning one on September 17th when leading all the way and stopping the clock in a good time. From a good draw, if he can bring that form to the races, he is a big chance first-up. After a good trial, (4) TOHAMSAN STAR didn’t show much on debut when drawn in the widest gate over 1200M. He gets a much better draw this time and can have come on for that run. (11) TRIPLE GANGJA was a fair 5th on debut all the way back in July and he can be a factor today. (8) CUPID GOLD and (10) B.K AXLE can potentially improve.

Selections(2) Fly Sky (4) Tohamsan Star (11) Triple Gangja (8) Cupid Gold

Busan Race 2: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

This race has divided and both divisions are pretty good. (3) YONGBI SHARK stepped up to this class on October 2nd and ran 2nd over this distance, coming from well off the pace. He has won over this trip as recently as August, and while he is up 2kg in weight, he has an excellent chance today, probably widen forward a bit earlier, like he was when he won. (7) BEST TIGER has won his latest three, all over 1400M when racing handy, most recently at class 5 level on October 4th. There are caveats. Two starts back he was second across the line but awarded the race in the stewards’ room and last time out, he prevailed by just a nose. He is up in class without a weight drop and up in trip as well, but he can be competitive again. (6) KING BLACK gets a 2kg weight swing from when he was 4th to Yongbi Shark’s 2nd in that October 2nd race and with less than a length to make up, should be firmly in this. (1) TTANBONG QUEEN and the up in class (2) DOCTOR PUNCH are others in the frame.

Selections(3) Yongbi Shark (7) Best Tiger (6) King Black (1) Ttanbong Queen

Busan Race 3: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

The second division on the class 4 handicap over a mile. (8) P.D SPECIAL ran 2nd in the first race to ever be run at Yeongcheon over 1800M in September before returning to Busan and winning in a filly only race at this class and distance on October 9th. She is up 1.5kg here but shouldn’t need to improve much to win this. (1) WIDAEHAN HEART is up in class having won over 1300M on October 2nd. She goes best on pace, but she was slow away on her only previous try over a mile in July. Down in weight and drawn on the inside, she can be close today and can measure up. (3) BAMTORI BAMBAM is yet to win but has six top three finishes and has finished 2nd in each of his last three outings. That brings him up in class today, as well as in distance, but he is down 4.5kg in weight, which should make him competitive. (7) YONGBI JJANG and (5) SOMANGUIGIL other place chances.

Selections(8) P.D Special (1) Widaehan Heart (3) Bamtori Bambam (7) Yongbi Jjang

Busan Race 4: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Maidens with three of the eleven racing for the first time. (5) MODERN BOY has raced twice, running 5th on debut over 1000M in August and then an improved 3rd at the same trip on October 9th coming from off the pace both times. Third up he can be peaking and the step up in trip can suit. (2) BREEDO SAMSON went through plenty of trials and debuted on October 9th with a solid 3rd place over this distance, albeit eleven-lengths behind a good winner. He should have come on for that run and shapes as the danger here. Of the debut-makers. (6) SHINING WORLD was the standout in trials, showing on pace and finishing in 3rd in a decent time in his second attempt. If he brings that form to the races, he can be in the finish first-up. (4) OASIS HANSEN has been back to trial since his inauspicious debut and could be much better today. So too (3) LEGACY MARINE.

Busan Race 5: Class 3 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(5) SAESIDAE WON raced twice in March and April, winning both over 1200M and a mile.  He has had setbacks since, being in and out of work across the spring and summer but he finally came back to trial on October 8th and picked up from where he left off, winning the heat. He is up in class and has his fair share of weight but there is a bit of quality about him, and he can make a winning return. (6) O.K. BABY has won his latest three and four out of seven in total, most recently an all the way score over this distance on October 8th. He comes up in class today but is down a full 4kg in weight and four in a row isn’t impossible. (10) CHAMP SONNY is ultra-consistent, most recently running 2nd over 1800M at this class with a couple of today’s rivals behind him. He drops back to a trip that he has won over and should be close again. (11) STEALTH MODE and (4) WONDERFUL BIDDER among plenty of other place chances.

Busan Race 6: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Maidens, all but two of whom are juveniles. After running 6th on debut, (1) SEOGWI BRAVO was an improved 3rd at start two on October 9th, albeit fourteen-lengths behind a strong winner. Third-up he can strip fitter and as good a chance as any in this limited company. Seo Seung-un getting on means that (4) OASIS YEONGCHEON will almost certainly be favourite. He has hinted at ability across three starts with his best being a 4th place at start two in September when coming from off the pace over 1200M. A similar performance would give him a big chance. (11) VALUE PLAY was 3rd at start two all the way back in February. He finally returns here and was 2nd on an October trial. (10) LOUDER and (6) CLUTCH TIME others in the frame.

Selections(1) Seogwi Bravo (4) Oasis Yeongcheon (11) Value Play (10) Louder

Busan Race 7: Class 6 (1600M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(1) OASIS TIME has made steady progress across four starts to date, culminating in 2nd place on his first try over this trip on October 9th when handy throughout. He should have come on for that experience and can go one better. (11) FLYING SKY was 4th behind Oasis Time in that October 9th race. Prior to that he was 2nd over this distance on September 18th on what was his first start since March and third-up this preparation he can be nice and fit and close again. (9) SUPER WEEK was an improved 2nd over 1300M at start three on October 2nd. The step up in trip again can suit and he can be on pace and stay on. (3) ACE LOVE and (7) POWERFUL KAYLAN are the other main contenders.

Selections(1) Oasis Time (11) Flying Sky (9) Super Week (3) Ace Love

Busan Race 8: Class 5 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(3) CAPTAIN WARRIOR returned for the first time since January on October 9th to get his maiden win over this distance, settling midfield and running on. He comes up in class but is down 2kg in weight and stripping fitter for that run, he has every chance of following up here at what might be an each-way price.  Korean Oaks also-ran (6) BORYEONGUI SINYONG has been the beaten favourite in both his latest two outings, albeit with excuses. She nevertheless has seven top three finishes from ten starts and is worth at least one more chance here. (11) YURIM ACE was an on-pace 2nd at this class and distance on October 9th, beating Boryeongui Sinyong by just under a length. She has the challenge of the widest gate, but she can be in this again. (7) YEONGGWANGUI HOPE and (2) MR NINE are other chances in a very competitive race.

Busan Race 9: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(7) BREATHLESS was an all the way winner on debut over 1000M on October 9th scoring by a full eleven-lengths. He comes up in both class and significantly in distance today, but the manner of that victory suggests that there can be more to come. (5) JEONGMUN SKIP is yet to win in ten attempts but was only beaten a nose over this class and distance on October 4th at Yeongcheon when leading almost the entire way. He is up in weight here but Seo Seung-un climbing on for the first time will tempt plenty. (6) TOHAMSAN DRAGON is a form-mixer but enters off a 3rd place over 1200M on October 4th, doing his best work late. He has placed over this distance too and can be in the mix. (11) NAMHAE MAGIC and (8) HAERANG RUBY others who can compete for the minors.

Selections(7) Breathless (5) Jeongmun Skip (6) Tohamsan Dragon (11) Namhae Magic

Busan Race 10: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies only to round out the card. (6) HIGH BEAUTY was putting together a decent record with a, two placings and five top four finishes from five starts up to March of this year. She then suffered a chip fracture and had surgery, but she has been back in work since the start of September and looked very well when 2nd to Saesidae Won in an October trial. She can pick up from where she left off here. (9) SINCHEON FREEDOM is a winner of just one from twenty-six but was 2nd last time out at this class and distance on October 11th when close to the pace throughout. She may well find one too quick again, but probably not many more. (3) GLOBAL FORCE returned from six months out to run 3rd over 1200M on October 25th at Yeongcheon. She makes a quick return to Busan here and can be in the finish again. (5) ARE YOU READY and (7) DOLGYEOK SPECIAL are the other main chances.
