Busan Race 1: Class 4 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 75 Million

Maiden for imported juveniles (and southern hemisphere three-year-olds) with three of the eleven racing for the first time. (10) SHOOT FOR THE SUN went through two trials, improving significantly in the second of them (running 2nd in a time of 62.2 seconds showing on pace from gate eleven). It was back in August but Seo Seung-un being booked may be the deciding factor for plenty. (8) MISTER BEYOND won his trial, showing handy throughout and stopping the clock in a good time. If he brings that form to the races, he can be in the finish. (6) LUNA CROWN and (2) ALL CLEAR finished 3rd and 4th respectively when they raced each other over 1000M on September 11th. There was only half a length between them, and both can have come on. (5) HONOUR SPECIAL, 4th on debut, another who can improve.

Busan Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(10) OASIS SONG has shown progress across three starts so far, culminating in 2nd place at this class and distance on October 2nd when on pace throughout. In the absence of an apprentice claim he comes up 4kg in weight, but that shouldn’t be a problem and he can win here. (4) GREEN STORM was 3rd in that October 2nd, much improved from her debut. She has three-lengths to find on Oasis Song and with a weight swing and the better of the draw, she can get closer today. (7) MR. SUNSHINE has a 5th and a 6th in two starts so far, both in fair times over this distance. Tanaka climbs on and third-up, he can be nice and fit. (8) RUN FOR ME didn’t do much on debut but has since been back to trial and may be better this time around. Debut-maker (3) POWERFUL WINNER another to consider.

Busan Race 3: Class 6 (1600M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(9) SHINY KOREA is yet to strike in ten attempts but has been knocking on the door in is latest three with a 2nd place at 1400M in July followed up with a 3rd, and most recently and 4th place over a mile on September 18th. In this company and from this gate he can settle back and run on and today can be his day. He will need to overturn the form on (8) MAGIC OF QUEEN, who finished 3rd in that September 18th race at big odds, settling midfield and running on. That was a big uptick in form, and with Seo Seung-un on, he will be much shorter this time around. (4) FANTASTIC ONE enters off a best to date 3rd when stepped up to this distance for the first time on September 6th. He is another who drops right back and can run on. (11) TIGER UPPERCUT and (2) SHINING CLUTCH among other chances.

Busan Race 4: Class 6 (1600M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(1) MAGIC OF ART returned from six months out in August to beat three of today’s rivals on her way to 2nd place over 1300M. She has had eleven weeks off since, but she has been in regular work and stepping up to a mile for the first time, she can make her breakthrough. (5) MISS COCO was 4th in that August race and comes in having run a very close 2nd over 1300M on September 11th. She does her best work late and will be a danger. (2) RESPECTING GIRL was 2nd – well beaten by a good winner – two starts back over 1400M before finishing 5th on her first try at this distance on September 18th. From a good draw and with Tanaka on, she may be a bit closer a but earlier today and can challenge late. (6) TWOTWO SPACE and (9) CHAMPUI HYANGGI among others in at least the placing frame.

Busan Race 5: Class 5 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

After running 3rd and 4th in his first two starts, (1) OASIS ANGEL led from gate-to-wire to win over 1200M at start three on September 4th. He comes up in class here, as well as significantly up in trip, but the latter is normal for the stable, and under a light weight, he can win again. (6) PRIME JENNY was a good winner on debut in July, leading all the way over 1200M but stumbled at the start on her first try at this class in August. She then went around in Listed company. She is back in much more amenable company here and is well worth another chance. (2) CHIEF BLAME has never finished in the top five and has been bouncing around between this class and class 4. He’s not always far away though and in this modest company, he might be worth a chance at will be an each-way and then some price. (3) DOLGYEOK SPECIAL and (10) CHAMPUI SIDAE are others in the hunt.

Busan Race 6: Class Open (2000M) Special Weight A / Gyeongnam Governor’s Cup (KOR G3 / KRW 500 Million

The second leg of the Queens’ Tour Fall/Winter for fillies and mares and in a very open race we’ll go with experience and (6) RAON FOREST. She has placed in three of four tries at the distance and in a race with question marks over every runner in the field, she is the safe choice. The market’s choice (and they may well be right as at her best, she is the best) will be (5) FANTASTIC VALUE. She won the Ttukseom Cup in April and while she was only 6th in the KNN Cup, she returned from four months off to win the Jeju Governor’s Cup with a front-running effort over most of these on September 20th. 2nd on her only previous try at this distance (in the final leg of the Triple Tiara last year), it would be no surprise if she retained her form and won, but she will be short enough pricewise. (13) BORYEONGLIGHTQUEEN will do her thing and will run on strong, but she almost always leaves herself too much to do. (9) CLEARLY WINNER is the best of the three-year-olds while (4) YEOSU SUPER STAR has exceeded expectations in similar races and can do so again.

Busan Race 7: Class 4 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(7) NINETY PLUS was a winner three starts back at this class and distance and he has a 3rd and a 4th in two starts since. An apprentice jockey – who is yet to ride a race winner – gets on and that brings him down to a weight at which he can be more than competitive and can win. (10) SKYLOR JIYOU has also won at this class and distance. He had a very poor day at the office two weeks ago but is worth another chance here. (9) GEUMA PANTHER hasn’t won for a while, but barring a poor effort two starts back when behind Ninety Plus, he rarely runs a bad race and should be in the finish. (1) GEUMSEONG and (2) DOCTOR CASTLE are the other most likely place chances.

Selections(7) Ninety Plus (10) Skylor Jiyou (9) Geuma Panther (1) Geumseong

Busan Race 8: Class 1 (2200M) Special Weight A / KRW 110 Million

This is in all but name a trial for December’s G1 Grand Prix Stakes at Seoul. (2) PRIME SECRET probably doesn’t need the rating points, but he is a contender to step up into the elite, albeit he was well back the last time he raced against them. Since then, he has won three on the spin, all at class 1 over 1800M. He is a front-runner and he carries a big weight, but if he stays, he wins. (9) AMAZING KHAN comes in following an unlikely 3rd place in the Korea Cup at Seoul, albeit beaten seventeen lengths by Diktaean. That’s enough to put him in here. (6) BREEDO SOL and (8) DOCTOR CHRIS ran 3rd and 4th (the former demoted from 2nd) in the final leg of the Triple Crown, and then 1st and 2nd at class 2 over 1800M on September 4th. Both should be competitive today, so long as they stay the trip. (3) JEONGMUN COBIT, 4th behind Prime Secret last time out, the best of the rest.

Busan Race 9: Class 5 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Competitive finale. (2) SUPEXNIKKE was an emphatic winner on debut over 1200M before having a hard time in the Juvenile Listed Gangseo-gu Mayor’s Trophy on September 11th when seemingly resenting the kickback. He very much looks worth another chance here. (5) FLEX KHAN is the danger. He is yet to win but he is also yet to finish outside of the top four and the step up in trip can make him very dangerous here. (7) JADE PALACE is next best. He ran 5th in an arguably stronger race than this at class and distance on September 18th and can be much closer today. (1) LEMON KING IJI and (8) CHOEGANG HAPPY are among plenty of others with designs on the places.
