Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (May 30)

Saturday’s racing is at Seoul where there are 10 races from 10.35 to 17.55. The capital hosts its first juvenile race of the year in the shape of the opener while the feature is a class 2 even over the rarely used distance of 1900M (race 9) featuring up and coming US import G B Vault. Here are the previews:

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Special Weight A / KRW 45 Million

(6) GRAND POKPUNG is a Park Jae-woo prepared Concord Point filly that has been around the mark in two trials with a fifth beaten six-and-a-half lengths on April 23 before a third seven days later beaten nine-lengths. MAJOR FURY (2) is a Revolutionary colt from the Kim Dong-kyun stables who has trialled once on April 30 for a four-length second. He is the only colt with fifty-three kilograms on his back as he gets a two-kilogram apprentice claim from Woo In-cheol and will go close. (9) LOOM CHUKJE trialled back on April 16 and was second throughout beaten seven-lengths and is a filly by Connect trained by An Byung-ki. (1) ROAD TO CHAMPION is an Indie Band colt with Jung Ho-ik who has one-and-a-three quarter lengths to find with Grand Pokpung from his solitary trial on April 30. They are the main quarter for the first juvenile race of the season with (5) BLITZ CARA and (3) NAMGYEONG SPINNING next best.

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(8) RAPID STORM trialled well when coming from midfield to win by a length on April 23 and this Shim Seung-tae prepared four-year-old filly by Thunder Moccasin must be a good chance of winning on her debut based on that effort. (2) BINNALEEDS is getting closer to a win and should get her chance from a low draw under Luis Quiroz. (3) JEJU BLUE has been around the mark in three runs to date which include a second on March 2. (9) BEAT CODE has also been close-up in three starts finishing just behind the placegetters in each. (5) ROAD TO PERFECT, (4) DANAEUN RICH and (6) SEONGSIL WINNER are the other chances.

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1700M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(9) MANGEUM DAON ran a one-length second to a subsequent winner on debut back in October before resuming with a fifth at the start of last month. He brings the best form, primarily from his debut effort, and if he stays, he will go close. (8) BROWN JACKPOT could be a roughie chance as she gets a weight swing on (3) BEOLGYO ALADDIN from April 12 when she was two-lengths behind the latter who carries three kilograms extra in this race. Beolgyo Aladdin has subsequently been second on April 25 when attempting to lead throughout. (2) WONDERFUL DARSHAAN has not been too far away in many of his runs and once again receives a two-kilogram apprentice claim from Woo In-cheol. (10) BLUE DRAGON rates next over (7) WONDERFUL CATHY.

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(1) RAPID THUNDER has been beaten into second in his two runs where he has completed the course, as an odds-on chance each time, and whilst letting punters down on those occasions he should really be going close to breaking through here. However, he will need to get away a lot better than last start when he dumped Jo Jae-ro leaving the gates as a 2.5 favourite and was out of business from the word go. (10) ORATORIUM led throughout to win by a nose last start in a 1300M maiden on April 25 and the second placed horse subsequently won very easily last week so there is no reason she cannot go up one grade and win again. (11) YES ANGEL was five-lengths behind (4) GWANAKSAN CHECK IN last start, when the latter stormed past tiring rivals late to win easily, however whilst she carried two-and-a-half kilograms less than Gwanaksan Check In that time in this race it is six kilograms less so she could turn the form around. There is a lot of early speed in the race so that will suit Gwanaksan Check In. The consistent (9) PNS GONGJA rates next over (8) MIRACLE SOCKS, (5) JURING SKY, (2) NAREUSYA NOVA and (6) AMOS STAR in a competitive race.

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(5) CHOWOLMA led throughout to win his maiden by eight-lengths in January and has not been far away subsequently in three runs at this level behind a couple of nice winners. He carries one-and-a-half kilograms less in this compared to last start when third to Urus Sabbia and gets a good chance to record a Class 5 victory. (4) ISIMNYEON SEWOL led throughout to win by a neck over 1400M at this grade last time and whilst going up three-and-a-half kilograms and seven pounds is a chance of winning again. (7) SAMJEONG LADY got the stitch late on her latest run in March which was her first race for four-and-a-half months. If fit enough she is good enough to go close. (9) RAPTURE was ahead of two reopposing rivals last time and was a course, distance, and grade winner three back when carrying only one-and-a-half kilograms less than what she carries in this. (6) RAON THE PLUMA rates as a chance with (2) EUNBIT YUHOK and (11) PARKA SHINE next best.

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(11) PURPLE KOREA chased home some smart horses in her first couple of runs when finishing third on each occasion before breaking through by six-lengths on April 18. She looks a great chance of making it back-to-back despite the grade and trip rise as well as the widest barrier. (7) DURAY SHOW is another that has chased home some decent types of late and should run her usual consistent race again. (9) THE SUN STORY was a course and distance maiden win from the front by four-lengths at the start of the month and could very well follow up whilst the same comment can be made for (10) DAEHAN COCO’S with the exception being her victory was in April and was by three-lengths. (1) KIA ORA and (3) FINAL JILJU rate next.

Seoul Race 7: Class 3 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(4) MASTER KWAIGON continues to race in great form and is going for three wins in a row following two and two-and-a-half length victories coming from midfield. He once again comes up one furlong and one grade but can be equal to the task. (5) MAGIC STRONG was third to Cheonmahoryeong on March 21 when having his first run in nine-and-a-half months and then went a few places better when scoring on April 18 by two-lengths when coming from midfield one level below this over course and distance. (7) WILD SOCKS always comes from the rear and whilst the small field will suit there may not be much pace on up front so he may struggle to work into the race. (2) K POWERFUL should be around the mark and rates next over (6) WONDERFUL LORD and (3) GRACE ROUTE.

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(3) VALID YOUNG has won two races from five starts and has a second and two fourth places in his other three runs where he has chased home General Wind, twice, and Concord Codie, who have both competed in the classic races this year. He will run the trip, will be in a forward role, in what is likely to be a slowly run race, and can come out on top. (5) DANAEUN STAR comes up big in distance, but the likely pace of the race should give him every chance to stay. He has the ability going on his last start victory from the front over two furlongs shorter one grade below this. He also has a second to Tiger Roar, subsequently third in the Oaks, back in January. He dumped his pilot on the way to post when scheduled to run at the start of the month which is a concern however he has trialled since where he came from the second half of the field to win by four-lengths. (9) THUNDER MARVEL is consistent and got his Class 5 victory last start after being behind some smart winners at his previous couple of runs. He will do his best work late whilst (1) CHUKBAEREUL DEULOERA rates next from the inside draw over (2) BURUI SEGYE and (6) GLOBAL COMPUTING.

Seoul Race 9: Class 2 (1900M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

(8) G B VAULT looks a nice stayer in the making and comes to his biggest test yet, both distance and class wise, following an incredibly soft front-running nine-length victory one grade below this last time. He stepped up in trip to 1800M for that contest after being outpaced over 1600M the start prior when beaten by a nose at odds of 1.2 but punters kept the faith last start sending him off as the 2.2 favourite and the nine-length margin could have easily been double figures if Johan Victoire wanted it to be. If he wins in similar fashion here, he is one to keep watching especially over longer trips. (9) STUNNING MONEY was best of the rest behind G B Vault in that race on April 18 and considering she comes down five kilograms compared to that race she should get closer but surely not close enough. (6) M G BEST comes off a 1600M win at this level where he stormed over the top of Flying Day, subsequent winner last week, and My Empire, placed to Roshe last week, late to win by an extending length. This is the furthest he has gone but he should run the trip and be involved in the finish somewhere. (7) MUSTANG POWER has been second at this class in two of his past four runs and rates next over (2) TRAUM KING, last start winner at this level over 500M shorter, and (5) SUPREME SOCKS, prepared by Luigi Riccardi a la G B Vault.

Seoul Race 10: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(10) FOREVER GIL comes off a four-length course and distance victory at Class 5 level and prior to that had not been far away behind the likes of Jiljuui Yeowang and Tiger Roar so she should go close in her first attempt at Class 4. (2) REVERENCE has been around the mark in four runs at this level but is yet to win. He will go close once more and maybe this could be his day. (4) GLOBAL SERVE gets a decent weight swing on (11) THE SUN BULSAJO from April 18 so he will not have an excuse regarding reversing the form. However, the latter is progressive and despite carrying three-and-a-half kilograms extra compared to that victory over course and distance she may very well win. (5) COMPLETE STEP will be close-up again and rates next over (1) RAON SPILETTA who should not be totally discarded.
