Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (May 9)

Saturday’s racing is at Seoul with 10 races from 10:35 to 17:55. Here are the previews:

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1700M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(9) MR.CREDIT was ahead of two reopposing rivals when a four-and-a-quarter length third when stepping up to this distance for the first time on April 12. On that basis he gets the nod. (2) PNS TWIN has two-and-a-half lengths to find with Mr.Credit from that race but must be a chance based on his four-length second over this distance on March 29. (7) JECHUK SANJIRO was an improved effort at his second run making up ground to finish third. He comes up three hundred metres in trip and is an interesting runner. (3) TOUR KING was behind Mr.Credit and PNS Twin last time but his half-length second to Fighter at his prior run, which was over this distance, is the best form on offer in this. They are the only four chances with (8) DIABIT and (4) SMART WARRIOR best of the outsiders.

Selections(9) Mr.Credit (2) PNS Twin (7) Jechuk Sanjiro (3) Tour King

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(1) GOLDEN MATCH has been around the mark at each of her last two with a one-and-a-half length second to Flying Honor on March 7 followed by a six-and-a-half length fourth on April 18, where she was a 1.5 favourite. She can be given another chance from the draw and should go close. (4) EVER LOVELY was well beaten most recently but had placed at her previous two starts so on those runs she is a chance. (8) GLOBAL CARD only beat two home on debut but has been third the next two times and CC Wong is on board. (10) MISS CHRISTIE rates next over (3) POINT I and debutante (5) TIGER REVENGER.

Seoul Race 3: Class 4 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(4) MYEONG DREAM is not a surprise runner this weekend but a surprise runner at this venue instead of down at Busan for the Oaks on Sunday. She made up good ground from last to finish midfield in the Listed Luna Stakes (Korean 1000 Guineas) last start and whilst she would have had a place chance in the Oaks she would have been struggling to win whereas she will be struggling lost in this race. (5) POWER BAND was a half-length victor on April 12 over the course, distance, and grade ahead of two reopposing rivals and whilst rising seven pounds and three kilograms she can go close again. (1) FASHION STAR has been close-up in each of her last five and they have all been races under the same conditions as this. (8) QUEEN DIA has not been too far away either and rates next over (3) HOMYEONG QUEEN and (7) HEEMANGBAND.

Seoul Race 4: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(8) STUNNING BOLT put together three consecutive fifth places prior to a two-length third last start when making up ground. She should be in the finish and can break through. (1) HANAM LASER has gotten better with each start and must be a chance from the draw. (3) SMART RISE has been a beaten favourite at each of his last two but with a three-kilogram claim cannot be dismissed. (2) RAON KINGSMAN has been fifth in three of his five runs whilst (4) DELTA DAECHEON, whose best run was last start, looks the only other chance with (9) CLUB MAN best of the outsiders.

Selections(8) Stunning Bolt (1) Hanam Laser (3) Smart Rise (2) Raon Kingsman

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(5) FLYING HONOR was a beaten odds-on chance on debut but made up for that at attempt two when scoring by one-and-a-half lengths over this distance. She was second beaten three-quarters of a length at her first run at this grade last time and can go close again. (3) YEONGWONHAN STAR was a course, distance, and grade winner at her last run on March 21 and despite the six pound and one-and-a-half kilogram rise she is a chance of going back-to-back. (10) RAON THE TONY is yet to break through but has been consistent. (9) YEONGGWANGUI SKY and (4) WIDAEHAN HAMSEONG are also consistent types with each-way chances whilst (6) BANK LINE is next best.

Selections(5) Flying Honor (3) Yeongwonhan Star (10) Raon The Tony (9) Yeonggwangui Sky

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(6) FLASH JUDE was a two-length winner of her maiden last start over The Sun Monster after being behind some good winners at her prior two starts. She looks a good chance of going back-to-back as does (4) TRIGONUS who also beat The Sun Monster in her maiden victory, in her case it was by a half-length, after chasing home a nice winner on debut. (9) PARAIBA came the closest she has come to winning last start however now comes up to Class 5 grade as a maiden. (11) WONDERFUL SEEKING is best of the rest over (5) CHEONJI LADY and (3) RAIN STAR.

Seoul Race 7: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(5) THE EXCELLENT is far from the most excellent horse in the world at the start of his races but he is quite excellent at finishing off his races as he showed last start when drawing clear to score by two-and-a-half lengths at this grade over 1300 metres. He goes up six pounds and three kilograms, but he can go back-to-back. His task will be made a lot easier if (8) ARION QUEEN CAR decides to misbehave. She did well in her first two starts before she pulled herself up in the initial stages of her third start subsequently being stood down from racing for two months as well as having to trial on two occasions to the satisfaction of stewards. She was not keen to race early on when resuming before getting into gear late for a fast finishing third. If she decides to show up, she could win this easily. (9) RAON BLAIDE clearly rates third best whilst (11) FINAL CHUKJE could be a roughie chance for a place. (7) DURAY SHOW should be around the mark as should (4) POWERFUL PRADO.

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(3) GEUMA FOREMOST has never won from sixteen attempts, and he is in what is effectively a two-win race, but it is hard to ignore his second places behind Di Ne, Musket Cleaver and Jiljuui Yeowang from four, three, and two runs back. He could only manage sixth last time but is worth an each-way investment at value. (10) SAENAE FIGHTER led throughout to win by six-lengths over the course, distance, and grade last start on April 4 and could potentially do something similar again as he only comes up two kilograms as four-kilogram apprentice Jo Seong-hwan hops on board. (4) JAZZ PURPLE has led throughout to win each of her last two over this distance by four and five-lengths respectively, rising in grade by one level on each occasion, and there is no reason she cannot keep progressing. (5) CYCLONE POWER rates next over (9) KING KALLE and (8) PERFECT GUN MAN.

Seoul Race 9: Class 2 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

(6) CHOEGANG GOLD is incredibly consistent having never missed the top three placings from nine runs and he lost no admirers in his first run at this level last start on March 28 when finishing second beaten one-length. Kim Hyo-jung and Luigi Riccardi have a 22% winning strike rate when combining and can continue with success here. (10) YEONHUI HERO is another consistent gelding that has not done much wrong in thirteen starts and he chased home the impressive Vet Captain when making his Class 2 debut last start back on March 14. He had won up to two in a row prior including over this distance. They are the two big guns in the race with (7) ARGO RICH next best over (4) HUSH DAEBO whilst (1) GANGNARU is one that will be in the market from the draw. (5) MUSTANG POWER rates next.

Seoul Race 10: Class 3 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(7) CRAZY STAR has one-length to find with (8) ROOFTOP from their encounter on March 22 but with Rooftop carrying an extra two-and-a-half kilograms this time it gives Crazy Star every chance to hold him off if he is good enough. Crazy Star has subsequently been around finishing third on April 12 whilst Rooftop has not been seen since. Rooftop has won two of his past three, both over 1200 metres, with the defeat being a sixth in the Listed Sports Seoul Trophy. (9) GWANAKSAN STORM was an excellent front-running winner over the course, distance and grade on March 1 when resuming from twelve months off. He could not lead last time and was beaten a long way and being drawn to the outside of Crazy Star does him no favours, but his best is more than good enough if he is on song. (6) DREAMER WHIZ has only won once from thirteen starts but with second places in four of his last six starts he must be getting closer to a second, pardon the pun, career victory. (4) GUKDAE FIGHTER and (11) VELOX BOY have some form to overturn with Crazy Star and Rooftop but they will not be far away just the same in an excellent race to close the card.
