The Sprint Series reaches Seoul on Sunday afternoon and having won the first leg in Busan a month ago, VINCERO CAVALLO will be a warm favourite to successfully defend the SBS Sports Sprint (1200M KOR-G3). SEE HERE FOR FULL PREVIEW OF ALL 17 SUNDAY RACES ACROSS SEOUL AND BUSAN.

While he swept all three legs of the Sprint Series last year, Vincero Cavallo’s form fell off in a disrupted second half of 2025 and that led him to only be second in the market when he returned from a four-month layoff to join the rest of the sprint division for the Busan Ilbo (1200M KOR-G3) on the south coast on March 8th.
The doubters – and there were plenty – were silenced as under a patient Jo Jae-ro ride, Vincero Cavallo emphatically announced he was back in form with a two-length win to put him in pole position to sweep back-to-back series.
So, who can stop him? WINNER CLEAR was sent off as favourite in the Busan Ilbo, and he was the one who ultimately got closest. He and Vincero Cavallo were in adjoining gates in Busan too but this time they are much wider. That should be of less concern to Winner Clear, and the start will be key. Seo Seung-un is on board.
BORN DIA led the Busan Ilbo, setting a strong pace before ultimately running 4th. Drawing the inside gate once more, she can lead again but only two horses were slower than her in the final furlong in Busan so making sure there is something left in the mare’s tank will be a key concern for jockey Masa Tanaka.
MAGIC POTION is a newcomer to the elite level. A winner of eight from fourteen, he won the KRA Sprint (Seoul) at the end of November. That was for horses rated 80 and down but he has since gone on to win twice at class 1 level. Winner Clear won the corresponding race at Busan the same day.
Veteran BLACK MUSK along with WONDERFUL GROOM are the other main hopes for at least the places. The SBS Sports Sprint is race 7 at Seoul with a local post time of 15:40.
1. BORN DIA – In the best form of her career with a class 2 win over this distance last October followed by a desperately close 2nd to Winner Clear in January when she very nearly led from gate-to-wire. She was 4th in the Busan Ilbo, racing on pace, and from the inside gate, she can be on pace and cause a lot of problems here and her 2kg mare allowance may help her late.
2. BEOLGYO VERITAS – Remarkably has the fourth fastest time among these for the distance, recorded when winning at class 2 in December, settling, as is his style, in midfield and running on. All six wins have come at this distance, but he is yet to race at higher than class 2 and he will need to lift here but he draws very well and will probably seek to lead.
3. DAEHAN JILJU – The veteran has never actually won at this distance, and he probably won’t win here either. He races for the first time since last August and while he has looked in excellent condition in two trials, most recently last week, others are favoured.
4. HAKSAN SPEED – Five-time winner at this distance up to class 2 level, he was an excellent 4th behind Speed Young and Yeonggwangui World in the Segye Ilbo in February, the same position he was behind Beolgyo Veritas in December. Good draw to be on pace and a chance of staying on.
5. BEOLGYOUI KKUM – 5th behind Winner Clear on his return from a four-month lay-off in January and then 5th again at 1400M in March at class 1. Solid campaigner but has plenty to find in this company.
6. SOMETHING LOST – Remarkably he has only won once in fourteen tries at this distance, but he was 4th in the Kookje Shinmun over 1400M in Busan last Octob er and has been 3rd in both his latest two, most recently behind Magic Potion at class 1 on March 8th. May not be a winning chance but can run a strong race.
7. YEONGGWANGUI WORLD – 5th in the Busan Ilbo from a wide draw when third in the market and prior to that was 2nd to Speed Young in the Segye Ilbo. He races best when on pace so he draws better than in Busan and he can be closer today.
8. MAGIC POTION – Class 1 winner over this distance in March, he tackles elite sprinters for the first time. Likes to race on pace but can sit handy too, he is seemingly still improving, and he can be a danger here.
9. WINNER CLEAR – Won a big, albeit rating restricted, Sprint Trophy at the end of November and kicked off this year with a strong class 1 victory over this distance in January leading him to start favourite in the Busan Ilbo where he ran 2nd to Vincero Cavallo coming from off the pace. He has two-lengths to find, but he can.
10. VINCERO CAVALLO – Swept all three legs of this series a year ago and while his form tapered off in the latter half of 2025, he returned from over four months off to dominate the Busan Ilbo Sprint in March. Hard to oppose on that form, but his draw is less favourable this time around and that could be his one weakness.
11. CHOEGOUI KKUM – This son of Bucchero won his first five up to class 2 but hasn’t scored since. He was a fair 7th of twelve in the Busan Ilbo and looked well in a trial last week. He has plenty of form to overturn here.
12. EAST JUMP – Best result a Trophy race win in a very quick time over this distance on international weekend last September but has been found wanting in previous attempts at this grade and that probably won’t change here.
13. SEUNGBUSA – Has been racing at further distances recently and it is a long time since he has been in any semblance of form. Drops back to a trip at which he has never won and while he trialed fairly last week, he is a big outsider here.
14. BLACK MUSK – The venerable veteran didn’t quite get back in the Busan Ilbo, but it shouldn’t be overlooked that he ran 4th in the International G3 Korea Sprint as recently as last September. It’s almost four years since his Group win and he may not shape as a winning chance today, but he will be finishing strongly and a place is possible.
15. WONDERFUL GROOM – 2nd to Winner Clear in the big Sprint at the end of November, he has since won back-to-back races at class 2 over a mile, both times from on the pace. He is a two-time winner at this distance and while the wide draw is an issue, he can challenge for a money finish.
