Seoul Saturday: Race-By-Race Preview (April 19)

It’s back to a day schedule at Seoul this Saturday when there are 10 races from 10:35 to 18:00. The forecast is for rain. Here are the previews:

Seoul Race 1: Class 5 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(9) AFLEET RUN has made progress across four starts so far, culminating in 2nd place at this distance on March 9th when handy throughout and well beaten by a good winner. This is weaker and if he can get to the lead again, he should go all the way. (3) DIXIE MAN has two 3rd places among five starts so far. His latest couple have been disappointing, but they have been at further and nicely drawn and with Moon Se-young staying on, he can be closer today. Among the debut-makers (1) UEOKSURO looks best having led a February trial before ultimately finishing 4th in a fair time. He can be on pace again and should be in the mix first up. (7) COSMO MING and (8) BULGEUNTAEYANG also hinted at ability in trials and couldn’t have picked a softer race to debut in.

Selections(9) Afleet Run (3) Dixie Man (1) Ueoksuro (7) Cosmo Ming

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(3) JOY CHEONHA enters off 3rd place at this distance on March 15th when handy throughout and running on. That continued a pattern of progress across his five starts so far and nicely drawn today, he can sit just behind the speed and be too strong late on. (5) EAST SKY came from midfield to run a solid 2nd place at this distance on February 22nd. He draws a much better gate this time, so can be closer to the pace early and can be in the mix again. (2) CHOCO BEAUTY has six top five finishes from thirteen starts as well as the fastest time among these for the distance. She draws well and may make for some each-way appeal. (6) THUNDER LUCKY and (10) BISANG BELL are others to consider.

Selections(3) Joy Cheonha (5) East Sky (2) Choco Beauty (6) Thunder Lucky

Seoul Race 3: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

A winner on debut and then 2nd on his first try at this class, (10) WESTERN GUN weakened after leading when sent up to 1700M, before firing a blank in Seoul’s Classic Trial in February. He returns to more amenable company today and accordingly can return to winning ways. (2) JECHUK LOG IN was 2nd on debut in January and followed up with a maiden win at start two on February 8th when slowly away but running on to score over 1300M. He’s had ten weeks off since then and is up in class, but he is down in weight and the additional half furlong can suit. (9) RAON NIZHINSKII didn’t seem to appreciate 1700M last time even though his previous running style had indicated that he might. He comes back to one turn today and with CC climbing on, should be a danger. (3) GOLDEN BALL and (4) HYEUKMUSANG other place chances.

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies (and one mare) only here. (7) GREEN CONCORD got her maiden win last time out at start number eleven leading all the way in a similar filly only race at this class and distance. She comes up 3.5kg in weight but she can lead again, and she can win again. (6) BEOLGYO LAVA got her maiden win two starts back before running 3rd on her first try at this class on March 16th. She remains under a light weight and with the fastest final furling average time in the field, she can challenge here. (1) SONGAM SKY beat a couple of these when winning at this class over 1200M on March 22nd. She comes up 2.5kg in weight but that’s balanced by a nice draw, and she can be in this again. (8) KHAN NUT and (9) MENI SHARK others to look out for.

Seoul Race 5: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(2) EAST GANGJEOK won back-to-back races in January and February over 1300M to get rapidly promoted to this class. He then ran 4th on his first try at this class and distance on March 23rd racing close to the pace throughout. He draws nicely, stays under a light weight, and he can win here. The danger is (6) HANGANG FANTASTIC. He comes up in class after a comfortable win at 1300M on March 15th when racing on the speed. Moon Se-young stays on and he has every chance of measuring up in this company.  (4) TANSEONGUI BANSEOK has run 2nd in both his starts so far, both times coming from off the pace over 1200M. The step up in trip can suit and third-up he may be peaking fitness wise. (10) LAFAYETTE and (7) SPINNING KANT other place chances.

Seoul Race 6: Class 4 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Wide open race. (10) NAMSAN MUJEOK enters off a 3rd place at this class and distance on March 22nd when coming out of the same wide gate to sit midfield and run on. He has won over the distance and also has the fastest time over it among these and he has as good a chance as any here. (3) MIGHTY SSEN ran 2nd at his latest start which came over 1200M on March 23rd when handy throughout. He tackles the 1700M for the first time and from a good gate, it can suit. (11) LOVE O MINE has a win and a 2nd place among three tries at the distance. We’ll draw a line through his latest at 1800M and under a light weight, he can be in the finish. (4) SEOUL DOLPUNG and (7) TIZ ENERGY among plenty of others who can have a say.

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

After an inauspicious debut just before Christmas, (4) GINSHARI BOY has been very strong in recording two facile wins over 1200M and 1300M to get rapidly promoted to this class. The 1400M shouldn’t be a problem, he is well drawn to get on pace, and Moon Se-young stays aboard to pilot him to his hat-trick. The danger is (3) RUN WILD. He raced four times last year and showed plenty of ability with a win and two runner-up finishes before a long injury layoff. He returned, gelded, on March 9th and promptly won over 1200M in dominating fashion. That brings him up in class and up to 1400M for the first time, but if anything, he should strip fitter for that run. (10) NANOMETA is yet to win in eighteen attempts but has nine top five finishes. CC Wong gets on for the first time and this is the kind of race he could slip into a place at an each-way price. (7) MORE THAN JOKE and (9) CHOEGANG TIME others to consider.

Selections(4) Ginshari Boy (3) Run Wild (10) Nanometa (7) More Than Joke

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(6) ACE K was a big improver at big odds when 2nd at start number three over 1200M on February 16th. He draws his best gate so far and can settle just behind the speed and go one better here. (5) GRAY CANDY didn’t do much on debut but has since recorded a 2nd and a 4th both at this distance and most recently on March 22nd. She should be on pace and has every chance of being in this a long way. She will need to overturn form om (1) FLYING OAKS, who came from well back to run 3rd in that March 22nd race. That was her second consecutive 3rd place finish, and she can be there or thereabouts again. (10) BLUE NELLO and (8) GWANAKSAN TIGER among others in the frame.

Seoul Race 9: Class 3 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(11) MAGIC POTION took a while to figure things out but has won three of his latest four most recently at this class and distance on March 22nd when he navigated to the lead from the same wide gate he draws here and went all the way, beating three of today’s rivals in the process. (10) M G BEST was 4th in that March 22nd race having been handy throughout. At the start before he was a winner over 1700M at class 4 level and under a light weight, he can be in the mix here. (1) K N LIGHT was further back in the same race but went into that following a 3rd and a 2nd from his previous two. He draws nicely and with Maia climbing on, can be a danger. (9) ULTRA THUNDER and (5) K N GOLDEN KING others to consider.

Seoul Race 10: Class 2 (2000M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

It’s high time (9) ZIGGURAT returned to the winner’s circle. He has a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th in his latest three, two of them over the 2000M. He got himself a bit far back a bit too late in the race last time out on February 9th but comes in fresh after ten weeks off and can win. (11) BYEOLNARA JILJU ran 2nd in that February 9th race and followed up with a 5th place having led at this class and distance on March 8th. He has the challenge of the widest gate here but if he can find a position before the first turn, he has every chance. (7) HIGH GRAND also comes out of that March 8th race when he was beaten favourite, using up plenty of energy from a wide draw and fading. He was 2nd in Listed company last autumn and should be a player here. (4) ACE GUNJU ran 2nd in the March 8th race at a big price and warrants more respect this time. (2) NICE TAEYANG another in the hunt.

Selections(9) Ziggurat (11) Byeolnara Jilju (7) High Grand (4) Ace Gunju
